Musharraf orders software for porn-free Pakistan
Wednesday, 18 February , 2004, 16:12 Lahore: A new technology that can block the viewing of pornographic images has been launched at the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology in Lahore. According to Ian McKinley of Guardware Co, UK, his company had been invited to launch the software in Pakistan by President Pervez Musharraf, who was suitably impressed at a demonstration of the new technology made during the Organisation of the Islamic Conference summit in Malaysia in October, the Daily Times reported. McKinley said the technology is different from previous anti-pornography software in that it blocks images at the point of use rather than at the point of supply. The software comes in two versions, ScreenShield for corporations and organisations, and iShield for home users, reports Ananova. The software analyses pictures that have been downloaded from the Internet while they are in cache memory and blocks them before they are displayed. full story |
