Oskar the ferret in intensive care :P

My Baby ferret Oskar took a turn for the worse today , so I rushed him off to the animal hospital , still unsure if he'll be okay ( for those of you that dont know my daughter fed him advil ( YES , I know she shouldnt have been able to reach it thats a different can of worms altogether )

He'll be there for a few days
If you all could stick a little peice of ferret in your hearts over the next few days for me .

Amazing how a little rat like creature can catch your love so fast .
Really hope we dont loose him .
so far , the vet is uncertain , but says he is stable .
Ive told them to do what it takes

stephs been all fucked up with her tooth . so Ive been doing everything at once , And I overlooked that she was leaving her advil her desk .. 2 feet from the ferrets cage .

How the advil got from there to the ferret without me noticing right away I havent a clue , but I found it in his cage when I was cleaning it . Alexandra threw enough ( 5 gel caps for migraines ) in the cage , 4 were intact , he cracked 1 open I guess .

the Vet seems to be making me feel like things might be okay ,
lst word , hes taking fluids , glocose , ulcer prevention and repair sorta meds etc etc ..

Ill post when I hear in the mornin

421Fill 02-17-2004 08:04 PM

dang, sorry to hear. hope he gets better.

hope the lil fella gets well soon

Jamdin 02-17-2004 08:08 PM

I hope Oskar pulls through

The Other Sweetie 02-17-2004 08:08 PM

Awww, I hope your ferret gets better soon. I had one, Ninja, for years until he died of old age when he was 9. Cute little critters.

MT_Butterfly 02-17-2004 08:08 PM

Wow...I'm sorry to hear about Oskar. We have 2 ferret's in our household...and they are so loveable! I know when people hear "ferret's" they think of rodents, but honestly the little critters have got great personalities and are so loveable! The things that they do (i.e. being the little pack rat's that they are and hiding your keys) makes you treasure them even more!

Keep us posted about Oskar...and if you have any pics, please post them. :)

shawcutie 02-17-2004 08:08 PM

Oh ferrets are so cute! Do you have a picture of him??

Quatermain 02-17-2004 08:09 PM

Sorry to hear that. Ferret's are neat little guys. I hope he gets well soon.

Thanks man .
I hope so .
the vet seems hopeful , but doubtful at the same time .

shermo 02-17-2004 08:12 PM

I hope nthe little guy pulls through. there's nothing harder than seeing a "family member" going through a rough time. It's the most helpless you'll ever feel.

OMG!! He looks just like one of our ferret's! Ferret Digger Hansen III! They are so adorable!! And Oskar is so cute...OMG!

I'm sure he'll be fine. If the vet gave you ANY kind of hope, hang onto that. :) I'll say a little prayer for him tonight...

Bump for Oskar and you're welcome! :)

PMdave 02-17-2004 10:06 PM

lost my 11 year old ferret on the 4th of this month... vet said it was the age that killed him.
Had him since I was 14... Unbelievable how much you can miss such a little stinker (although he didn't smell his name was stinky)

eroswebmaster 02-17-2004 10:13 PM

dang man...sorry to hear that...pets getting sick make me sad :(

Kinda like when a baby gets sick you know they're not feeling well but they can't tell you exactly what's wrong.

machinegunkelly 02-19-2004 10:29 AM

UPDATE:
Seems oskar isnt doing any better
the vets worried he wont pull through .
Prognosis : poor

but I told her to see if a few days helps , seeing that he hasnt got worse . but hasnt got better .

I dunno how to feel right now .
I guess Ill go till I can't afford to go further .

candyflip 02-19-2004 10:35 AM

Man...I was sooooo sure that he had made it through the worst of it, and now you say he's taken a turn for the worse.

This really sucks. My little guys and I are pulling for him.

I'm glad to see there is a fruity side to you MACHINEGUNkelly, but seriously, I hope your ferret pulls through. I used to know this cat who was touring the west coast with the Dead and whatnot, with his ferret, one night I guess he slept on it and crushed it, ouch. Good luck :thumbsup

GiantGnome 02-19-2004 11:08 AM

Man thats tough and I know how easy it is to fall in love with ferrets. I had one and that little guy had the greatest personality. I hope yours pulls through. Dont be too hard on yourself about not catching your daughter soon enough. Kids have an invisible button and they like using it quite often.

Good luck!:thumbsup

sickkittens 02-19-2004 11:33 AM

I help rescue rats and checkup costs for my own rats are usually $100+ per visit and some surgeries can go way up. Some people think it's crazy but oh well.

Good luck. Hope he gets well.

I used to have 5. They are adorable creature's with personality and charm. And the propensity to crap in every nook and cranny of your dwelling. I'm sorry I made light of your sorrow. It wasn't intended as such, although I see how its hard to construe it any other way.

I'm sorry.

Good luck Oskar.

Thanks for keeping us posted.

Ferrets are about the only critters that haven't lived with us over the years. I've always had cats and didn't want to have to limit their roaming or a ferret's.

They definitely grow on you.

-=HOAX=- 02-19-2004 12:06 PM

OK, I hear you.

And to clarify, I was going to relate my trials with the herpes ridden flea weasels I had when I was younger. I typed, "Herpes ridden flea weasels" and then got distracted. Alt+S sends icq's, its also posts replies...

I feel bad because I didn't go in and edit and clarify my comment. Whatever damage done. Mouth tastes like foot.

I had 5 of the lil bastards, no animal in my life has ever brought such frustration and joy. I bought a pair in nevada, Pink and Blue. Ferrets were just gaining popularity in the town I was living in a few of my friends had them. So people were buying them and whatever. I had these two for quite some time, then they started showing up on my doorstep. That's how I got dooby and sid. Five ferrets in a house is probably the funniest thing you can imagine, as a ferret owner you know this. I had a foam beer cooler thingy...they fetched it. They would bound after it and fight with eachother as to who would get to bring back to my lap. 5 ferrets staring at you in anticipation of a thrown foam beer cooler thingy is a precious thing. I've never seen a ferret pay attention to a single activity for more than 5 minutes...this lot would fetch for hours on end.

Sid's owner showed up at my house and wanted him back after 2 years. Dooby escaped through the ac vent and was never seen again. Pink and Blue lived on for two more years before pink died of kidney problems and blue died of what I can only imagine was heartbreak.

3 years later Philo as just a kit showed up on my neighbors doorstep who had no knowledge of the responsibilities involved. I took her in and had a ball for 3 months. Her hair begain to fall out soon there after. Starting at the tail and working toward her head...after about $500 I learned that her spaying and descenting had been botched. Never by a ferret with the blue dots on the ear, they represent the markings of one of a few ferret farms located in america. The ferrets are raised poorly, treated poorly, and spayed/descented poorly.

Part of her sexual organs had been left in in the operation, causing her body to produce hormones, those hormones were destroying her liver and kidney's. As a brand new father at the time I could not afford the $800 operation, she was given to a veteranarian's assitant who could get the proceedure done at almost nothing...when I'm in tahoe I still visit her. She lives together with Jack...although he's a bit of a bully, she puts him in his place more often than not. I miss her...the herpes ridden flea weasel.

is that ^ after the advil? lol, jk

ferrets own, I hope yours makes a full recovery :D

Tala 02-19-2004 12:14 PM

I had two at one point four years ago. Chewie and Kaji. Imiss them both terribly, and ownder if they're still alive. My ex-roommate took off with them one night while I wasn't home, and I have no idea where she or the critters ended up. I hope the ferrets are okay.
