Important Announcement: Cataract Surgery Needed

I find myself needing cataract surgery for both eyes. While I would not normally post this at gfy, I find that I could use some help in raising funds. I have contacted the Lion's Club and the Knights Templar but I have not yet received any replies from them ("leave a message and we will get back to you" is all I get and time is running short).

Anyway, I am not asking for handouts so I am selling my book and comic collection. I have a few items now but will be adding more when I can. Details can be found at http://www.moongem.com

Yes, I am working on a variety of projects but it is getting harder each day to stay too long in front of the computer screen (not good when the words are blurry while wearing glasses). No, I am not doing this because I want to (I either get the surgery done or I face blindness).

I will be glad to answer any questions or if people are looking for specific books or comics. I have many paperbacks and comics to sell that I have read and collected over the years. I even have two Stephen King books that I have not even read yet. I do have a few adult comics such as Omaha the Cat Dancer if anyone is interested.

So flame away if you want or you can help someone for good karma. I would appreciate the latter...

stocktrader23 02-17-2004 12:29 PM

Flame away for what? You didn't ask for a handout.

Jamdin 02-17-2004 12:34 PM

Thanks, Stock, but others might not see it that way.

Sly_RJ 02-17-2004 12:38 PM

Good luck with the eyes...

Tam 02-17-2004 01:01 PM

Oh no, I knew you were having trouble with those cataracts, but didn't even consider it being this bad. This is sad news, babe. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. I am not in such great shape this minute myself, but I'll be glad to help ya anyway I can. You have ALWAYS ALWAYS been there for me. Please take care of yourself. :(

Bump for Jamdin

baddog 02-17-2004 03:00 PM

Jamdin, did you follow up with the Lions Club yet?

goBigtime 02-17-2004 03:00 PM

Hey Jamdin.. sorry to hear about your vision problems :(

how old are you? (if you don't mind sharing)

Jamdin 02-17-2004 03:55 PM

I'm contacting a local person that belongs to the Lion's Club tonight, baddog. My mom is helping me on that since she knows the guy and she has the number. She's been helping a lot since I get so frustrated over the phone (hard of hearing on these new cordless phones...whatever happened to the old phones that had volume control).

I have filled out paperwork for SRS but that can take up to six months before I hear anything back (the doctor already told me that would be too late). I cannot contact the Knights Templar without a letter of denial from the SRS. I called SRS earlier and they are still going through the paperwork.

I turned 39 on Friday, February 13th so I do not want to go blind before I hit 40. Damn, I'm starting to feel old all of a sudden.

Theo 02-17-2004 04:03 PM

dirtyone 02-17-2004 09:04 PM

Hopefully the good nature of this board will prevail as it has in the past for others and you will be able to get the help you need.

Good luck Jamdin.

CARRlE 02-17-2004 09:07 PM

Another bump for one of the good guys... this is certainly more important than some of the threads on here lately that people are handing money over for.

(what's up with the board times? I've got mine set for US Eastern and it's already saying 1:30am on the 18th? It's like 11pm...)
Edit: sure, right after I post all the times change. Weird.

FreeHugeMovies 02-17-2004 10:54 PM

Bump 4 U

FreeHugeMovies 02-17-2004 10:56 PM

cool1 02-17-2004 11:06 PM

natkejs 02-17-2004 11:12 PM

Thanks to everybody who has donated and helped out. I finally got the call from the cataract surgeon, which led to a dozen other calls (I hate playing phone tag with people reluctant to give a general price of how much something is going to cost).

So far the cost is:
Surgeon fee: $625 per eye (he is being kind enough to drop it from the original cost of $1900 per eye)
Operating room: $1800 per visit (I made a typo on another forum)
Anesthia: $112 to $400 per 30 minutes

So it is roughly going to cost $2537 to $2825 per surgery (providing the anestia is only need for 30 minutes)

I need both eyes done so the grand total will be: $5074 to $5650 (this does not include special eye drops, follow-up exams and whatever else they decide to throw in). They want half up front and the rest in 90 days. I asked if I could do a payment plan and they said no.

I have $2,000 in my savings which will go towards the surgery (wiping me out totally for other bills and rent). So far, I have received roughly $700 (thanks to all who donated. I have enough for one surgery (depending on the anesthia costs).

I will be adding something to keep track of the donations on the site tomorrow.

Once again, I would like to thank all who has helped. It does mean a lot to me.

FreeHugeMovies 02-18-2004 01:12 AM

I wish some of the bigger players on the board would donate to good causes like this. :2 cents:

Some of them probably will once they notice this thread. Even though the cause is good, I think the timing was bad. He's competing with boobs.

Marina 02-18-2004 01:30 AM

Will look at your site too... and here is a bump! :)

Also good luck with your surgery!

rip raster 02-18-2004 01:40 AM

Sorry to hear buddy...I am just getting over a really bad year (physically)myself I know what it's like. You should try smoking some pot I hear it relives some of the pressure from the cataracts.

I hope everything pans out for you

9:40am here, finally went to bed 1½ hours ago but couldn't stop thinking about this thread ......

I don't know you Jamdin... but knowing myself I spend all cash I get on bullshit... but every now and then I try to do something good with it. Not much but every bit counts huh.

Best of luck, I think you'll be alright!

Peace & Good night :)

LiveDose 02-18-2004 01:43 AM

My Father just had his second one done yesterday. At least recovery time is minimal.

Good luck to you.

-=HOAX=- 02-18-2004 02:17 AM

I made a thread that is mocking of this one...I honestly never read this thread till now...some 20 minutes after my first post. I never meant to offend or make a farse of your situation.

Jamdin 02-18-2004 08:12 AM

Thanks again to all the people who donated.

Yes, it's hard to compete with boobs.

Hoax, it's not a problem. I would have been surprised if someone didn't mock the situation on this board. Thanks for the apology.

Jamdin 02-18-2004 08:57 AM

I have updated http://www.moongem.com

I now have Goal: $5074 to $5650 --- Raised: $2845

Chris 02-18-2004 09:06 AM

You will have a donation from me once my ceash payment comes into my paypal today

best of luck.

Sarah_Jayne 02-18-2004 09:24 AM

Over the years I have always enjoyed reading your posts. Are you still writing story content for sale or is that too much at the moment? Maybe some people would be interested in buying some of that content.

I am not rich myself so I can't send huge amounts but I just donated a bit. I think it will come through as being from webmaster @ digitalbuyingguide . com

Jamdin 02-18-2004 10:02 AM

I would love to be able to write more than I am now. Unfortunately, I am lucky if I can write a story a day. I'm not in any pain but when I read too much at the blurry words on the monitor, I get dizzy. I have to step away from the computer several times in just one hour.

Got any erotica that you have written that might be up for sale? I'm sure myself I would be happy to buy some to help your cause.

how much is the surgery? and how long will it be before you are good as new once you've had the surgery? (if you don't mind me being nosy)

read the thread ;P

"I need both eyes done so the grand total will be: $5074 to $5650 (this does not include special eye drops, follow-up exams and whatever else they decide to throw in). They want half up front and the rest in 90 days. I asked if I could do a payment plan and they said no."

Jamdin 02-18-2004 10:20 PM

Thanks again to everybody who donated.

I will have my left eye done first and I will be seeing with one eye for a month. I wear glasses with thick lens (they are pretty scratched up now since the reason I went for the eye exam was to get a new pair of glasses). I will either wear an eye patch or pop the lens out of the glasses. A month later, I will get the right eye done and it will take about a month to heal. The doctor told me that I would probably still need glasses but they will be thinner than the ones I currently wear.

So basically, I am looking for two months of being with one eye providing everything goes right.
