The Google Adwords Tip Thread Of Great Joy

Sorry, I don't have any tips..moreso looking for them. I'm going to be utilizing Google's adwords for a mortgage company next month. I'll mainly be targeting three states but going national with the campaign is an option.

So, let's make this an Adwords tip thread. I'm sure there have been others but with the search not working, it makes them rather difficult to located. Wiredguy, where y'at?

Ask specific questions and I'll answer them. I don't generally give out formula's on how to optimize PPC campaigns though since I'd just be setting myself up for competition :)

Understandable, WG. My questions are pretty general. I've only used Adwords a time or two with not-so-hot results.

Let's say I'm targeting three states (AL, MS, and FL). I'm looking for traffic from people who are in the market for a home loan. The site will be a "search" service for mortgages but will only return 1 result no matter the search (mine :Graucho )

I think the max I will spend is $1500 / month unless I get some kickass results. My thoughts were this, let me know what you think.

Set up 3 different campaigns. 1 for AL, 1 for MS, and 1 for FL. The titles and descriptions would be something like Best Florida Mortgage Rates or Best Alabama Mortgage Rates, etc..

I am only going to target one keyword "mortgage" which is really sought after according to how much it's going to cost to get in the top spot.

I could use a few tips on optimizing this situation. Like I said, I understand if you're hesitant to give that info out. If you'd like to do it in private, mortgage01 [at] bellsouth.net is my e-mail addy.

Thanks much, WiredGuy.

I'm not sure when was the last time you used adwords but they do have geographical (by state) targetting now. So you can target the three states you mentioned without a problem and setup 3 adgroups for it such that your adcopy reflects the three states. You can also pick generalized keywords such as "mortgages" or "loans" and have it regionally targetted. Just make sure you setup your maximum cap to be $1500 so you don't spend your cash too quickly. I burnt through a good $1000 or so before I made a profit from Google. It's tricky since the adcopy is rather short but it is definitely profitable. Especially with geographical targetting you should be able to pinpoint the exact customers you're looking for.

I am convinced that to suceed with adwords is a specialised skill and there is a market out there for specialised PPC management.
I can't make it pay and my hat goes off to people who can.:thumbsup

I agree, it certainly is a specialty skill and it definitely is attainable. There wouldn't be this many advertisers if it wasn't profitable so it just takes time and money to tweak out what it takes to make it profitable.
