Is Skan-Media a scam ?

Hi Guys,
Although this seems unbelivable, I have to ask this question :
Is Skan-Media a scam ?
I had opened an account with them and signed content brokerage contract with them, and after I sold content more than 120 Euros in the first week, I couldn't connect to my producer account, and the contact person from their side doesn't reply to my messages on ICQ and e-mail.
120 Euro is not such a big income, but I put my entire content for sale on their server and after the first week I couldn't connect to my producer account to see how much did I sold.
We have also did programming an design work for the same company (more than 800 usd value) and we did not received any payment from them for our work also.

Is anyone selling his content trough Skan - Media ? Does anyone has similar problems like I have ?

Oracle Porn 02-15-2004 06:22 AM

it's not a scam.

natkejs 02-15-2004 06:24 AM

find a phone # ... call em up and try to sort it out.

Mr_Valentin 02-15-2004 06:31 AM

I will call them on the phone which is in the home page.
I also sent an e-mail to that e-mail address and I didn't received anything back... which says something about the support.
I am not very sure the phone will help, but I will try it also.

Does anyone know Thomas Wulff from Skan-Media ?

Trax 02-15-2004 06:34 AM

:1orglaugh
they will surely ruin their reputation over 120 bucks lol

jennycards 02-15-2004 06:37 AM

I have bought from them some times in the past and have pretty good experiences.

In fact they are just in the process of upgrading/changing their web scripts and had some glitches with it. I phoned them ... no probmlems. Keep in mind though that their company is located in Germany ... so depending on your location there might be a significant time difference.

True about the timezone, they're in GMT+1 which is 6 hours ahead of EST.

Right now it's 2:42pm in this part of the world ;)

Mr_Valentin 02-15-2004 06:45 AM

Maybe someone from their company will want to reply on this topic, just to keep their reputation.
My account on Skan-Media site is ValentinM

My purpose is not to try to ruin their reputation. I only want to receive the money I earned. And as I said above, there is 120 Euro from content selling and also more than 800 usd that we earned working one custom design and programming a site for them.

Mr_Valentin 02-15-2004 06:49 AM

I am located in Romania, si I presume Germany is 1 hour less than we are.

Correct... :)

Keep jennycards post about their upgraded scripts in mind and try to contact them by phone tomorrow.
I doubt they will respond here on a Sunday.

Good luck!

Mr_Valentin 02-15-2004 06:57 AM

Thank you for your good advice.

Since they are in the upgrade .. can any one of the producers who broker their content trough Skan-Media login to their system ? Is login in not available for all or only for me ?

Skan-Media had some issues with a former business partner, which finally resulted in a total re-design of the site, including a move to a new server location and installing new software. all this was decided within hours, so to say.

obviously there went some things wrong, as usually with unexpected measurements like that. these minor issues add up at the moment.

although i am not personally involved with Skan-Media (i merely help to get the word out some more), i am convinced everything is done to be back at full force as soon as possible. what shop owner is pleased about not being able to sell as much as he could?

if there's anything urgent you have to contact Skan-Media about, phone or fax (both available on the site, click my sig graphic for the quickest way there) will be the best choice, as email still isn't 100% relieable.

Posting such a question on a board is very poor business practice. This should be your LAST resort, after having attempted to contact them in all possible ways, which you stated above that you hadn't. How would you like your clients to come on a board and ask if Mr_Valentin is a scammer? Most people don't bother opening the threads, but they will keep associating your name with 'scammer' for a long time to come. It's a very shitty way to destroy someone's reputation, especially for peanut money. Anyway, I don't know why you haven't gotten paid yet and I won't bother speculating about it, but Skan-Media has a solid reputation and I'm sure you'll get paid, eventually.

Meanwhile, I think you owe them an apology and you just fucked yourself as to how many people will be willing to work with you after this. I, for one, wouldn't wanna take the risk of having ISP problems and not being able to answer your e-mails for a couple of days, after which you'd go hysteric and post on boards that I'm a scammer. And I'm sure others wouldn't either. Grow some PR skills, for crying out loud...

Not a scam at all, Thomas is an upmost professional, you need to sort out your head before making just a panic post!

Nope....no way,too big guys to ruin their reputation for such a low $$$...

Dear DamageX
I presume if you have problems with your ISP more than 3 weeks you will eventually change it, right ?
As you probablly know e-mails not received are sent back with an error confirmation (which I didn't received). Also , ICQ doesn't have anything to do with the hosting company. So ISP problems are out of the question.
Also, I am not afraid to say my point of view. I have worked for a lot of big companies and some didn't payed. They probablly think that beeing big allow them to fuck small companies.

How would you feel to work one month for someone and then don't get payed ? Would you try to solve the problem 2 months before making a post (like I did) ? What would you say if the client will postpone you every time for various reasons (any of them more or less unbelivable)?

It happens all the time. You don't hear me whining and bitching on boards because they ran away with my lunch money. Treat business like business. Posts like this reflect bad on you, especially since it became clear from the start that you did NOT attempt to contact them in every possible way. Not to mention your lack of tact and poor choice of words when asking if they're a scam, instead of merely asking if someone knows what's going on there.

Mr_Valentin 02-15-2004 08:54 AM

I think I could get the next plane to there.
What struk me was that while working for them , Thomas was online all the time. After I asked for payment he got online only once / week and eventually dissapear.
I will phone tomorrow, but I am pretty sure it won't solve the problem. I will just exhaust "all means possible"

If it happens all the time, why not share with us the names of those companies so we will take care when accepting a job from such a company ?

ounique 02-15-2004 10:51 AM

Sarah_Jayne 02-15-2004 10:58 AM

not quite right on the email bit. i was on the phone with a UK photographer last week. he thought we were ignoring him (we is NOT Skan-Media but my company) since all his mails went unanswered. thing is, not a single one of his mails ever reached us. no idea what happened there.

since he is a friend too, ignoring him was out of question to begin with. i can see though how bad this might have looked to someone we don't have a personal relationship with.
