Its so hard to believe hippies were the core creators of a $300 Billion company.

I couldn't have bought stock in that company at the time since Microsoft didn't go public until 1986 (eight years after that picture was taken).

I had a friend who went to work there in '86. He turned down the initial stock options in return for a higher salary. When he retired 7 years later those options would have been worth 3 mil.

I dont know, their look was not so reassuring :1orglaugh

Validus 02-15-2004 09:37 AM

Well it shows that appearance is not always what we should judge things on. Either way, Bill Gates made it. Like MS or dislike MS? got to admit it.

fuelcell 02-15-2004 09:42 AM

don't underestimate geeks ...?

pornguy 02-15-2004 09:49 AM

Have you ever seen a photo of the guy from Sun Micro that invented Java??

Anyway. Bill bought the rights to MSDOS from a company for 50K. The rights gave him unlimited use to it and the ability to make any changes that he wanted. The company that made MSDOS thought that they got a good deal on the purchase..

Now gates makes more than 50K per hour!

Sometimes in life you make bad choices and the DR-DOS guy made the worst mistake of his life...

The story went like this...

IBM needed an OS for the PC and they went to meet the guy of DR-DOS.

DR-DOS guy instead of meeting with them said something like "I'd rather go fly my airplane" :1orglaugh during those days you wouldn't piss off IBM folks, like the saying nowadays go "You can't go wrong if you use M$ products" it was same back in those days, except it was IBM that was ruling with a IRON FIST!

Then IBM went to M$. The rest is history.
