Humidifiers vs. Dehumidifiers

I don't know if there are any other people here that have microphobia, but I have a number of air purifiers. I'm looking into cleaning the air even more. I'm looking into humidifiers and dehumidifiers. Do you guys have any advice for me? Like how do you know if your air is too humid or not enough?

In our old house we had to use a dehumidifier in the summer cause of the moisture and there being so much woodwork and in the winter we had to use the humidifier. I loved them, it did make a difference.

After you run the dehumidifier for a few days, you will find out what setting to keep it at to make the air the right moisture for you. In the summer I have to have one going at full blast because the humidity is so bad here.

Neither will clean the air, they only maintain the moisture in the air. If your worried about mold growth get a Dehumidifer. Pay the extra $ ( $1300 @ dryez or your local janitorial suppier ) and get one that is self contained, Ie.. it has a drain line that you can place in any drain. I own a restoration business and we mitigate against water and mold damage. You can monitor the humidy with a hygromiter (sp) you can by one @ radio shack for around $20 buck. Hope that helps

This one here does. It's an air purifier and humidifier. It's the Venta Air Washer.

To clean the air more, only thing that came to mind was the ionic breeze with Ultraviolet Germicidal Protection. The science of killing the germs is sound, the city I just moved from used ultraviolet rays on the water supply as an extra precaution against germs. The price of this item is quite high in my opinion though.

I have been looking into these as well, but how much of this is brilliant marketing and how much is real? I mean I have a hard time beleiving that this thing is better than a regular air purifier. It doesn't even have any moving parts. Does it really rip the smoke out of the air? I'm not sold on it yet.
