Why do cigs burn all the way and joints dont?
Does anyone know why? A friend told me it's the chemicals they put into the tabacco. Any truth to that? A cig will burn all the way until it's gone if you put it down but a joint will go out.

its about the paper you use, amateur

They put saltpeter in the paper of vigarettes so that they don't go out. That's why I roll my own...only tobacco and paper in there, no other shit
|
The crystals on your buds make more tar that puts itself out. Tobacco is much drier then weed covered in crystals. At least this would be my guess. :winkwink:
|
chemicals might have something to do with it, but the paper aswell, cigarettes are machinemade with thin paper, i dont even think it's a rice paper. Cigs Burn faster so that you will smoke more of them, Tobacco companys are not stupid.

If you look at a smoke under a BLACKLIGHT you can see the potassium nitrate ( salt peter ) in it.
|
cig tobacco is dried to the bone, weed for the most part has some moisture in it, depending on what your strain your smoking, if it was cured properly etc

I put a cig under a black light and it does glow in spots...very peculiar indeed. However, I'm not convinced chemicals in the paper would keep the tabacco burning, it seems they would have to put the chemical into the tabacco. So in essence, it's the tabacco that would be keeping the cig ignited and not the paper. :2 cents:
I just can't see how that super thin paper could put off enough energy to cause the tabacco to continuosly burn and vice verse for the weed. I'm leaning more towards the "moisture" party on this one. |
Its chemicals that are added to the tobacco so it stays lit...... the paper that is used for the cigarettes has saltpeter as well as rolling papers. has nothing to really do with the moisture......thats why cigs are nasty

Buy some non-US smokes and you'll find it to be true...
Rothmans will burn out if you don't puff on them, whereas ANY and ALL US brands will burn if unattended to the filter...it's the chemicals and paper they use.... |

they go out when not smoked, can't remember the brand righ off hand American Spirit, that is it |
because tabaco burns and weed doesn't!
thats why you always add tabacco to your weed! So it will burn all the way! |

I seem to recall, back in the day, they were going to make the cig companies do something about that to keep people from burning themselves up when they fell asleep, smoking in bed |

takes more heat to keep herb lit..... its more dense.

. . . . besides, what a waste of weed it would be to have it burning away while some dude holds it in his hand explaining the mysteries of life instead of passing it along.
at least it goes out until the next guy gets it, lasts a lot longer that way |
look at your cigarette paper. it has little bands around it over and over. the tobacco company's learned a log time ago that by adding chemicals to the paper it would continue burning if left unattended, therefor causing the smoker to light another since the one in the ashtray is now burnt up. It attributes to mulitple house fires every year but no one does anything about it.
something to chew on |

tobacco and weed once dryed ignite easy, tobacco more so then weed. It only takes a min amount of fire combined with the paper to burn that thing like a snake once lit. |
THe paper is a contributer but not the answer as rolling paper is the same.
The answer is there is chemicals in the tabacco to help it not go out so it will burn out and so you need to light another if you forget it. |
chemicals. weed is pure, cigarettes have shit into it so it could burn faster... the point of a joint is that it would burn slower, but steadier, try using tighter rolls and thiner ones :thumbsup

shredded leaf vs. sticky bud

Roll some joint in a normal paper and it will burn all the way down, use a rice paper and it will stop burning when you don't touch it. What the big mistake is that I think most mean is when you don't mix it with tabaco. In holland we mostly mix it and I have to agree if you mean it will go out if you only use bud, thats because of the bud and the rice paper yes. But what do I know huh :winkwink: |
