TGP & Program owners, even pimppuppy

We have found a content thief we believe to be very organized.

He has stolen a lot of content from clients of our and using to drive traffic to a few major programs from a lot of TGP sites. The last three URLs we found he had the content on he came to our site and bought the sets in question so he could show the program owner the license.

Three different URLs, three different registrations, different affiliates codes, different credit cards, different registrations with us and one big COINCIDENCE. When we looked closer all the URL registrations were false and the hosting is similar.

So what I'm thinking is could and would the program owners suspend payments to these thieves until they have proven they bought the content legitimately and before they used it. Would TGP owners suspend them?

If shown to be guilty can/will the sponsor refuse to pay the thief?

We will of course be offering the thief the option of buying a ?Post Use? license for a price of $200. So he can still get his money and stay alive.

Should he decide not to we will attack on all fronts to close him down.

So would you help or not?

Well all I have is three aliases. Could look closer at the Credit card info. On my way there now. :)

Paul Markham 02-14-2004 03:54 AM

Two of the purchases were bought by the same credit card, problem is they are registered as different people on my site, with the sponsor and even different countries.

The more I look at this the more I see the reason for Steve Eastons frustration. Just he took it so personal.

I'm looking to make money from it.

Bump.

I would help!

If you send me the info, Paul, I can do my best to get his listings pulled from some places. No TGP owners want people with stolen shit on their sites :)

Thanks LM, after our holidays I'm going to be working on a solution to this problem of having our content pirated. You might want to pool resources and knowledge.

Paul,

What ever I can do, let me know. I've seen my sites raided in the past. Plan to do more biz with you, so we need to keep you going strong!!

Plus, I'm all ears on security steps I can take.

Sad thing about this industry is that like everything there are a few real assholes!! It's more than just stealing art. I could rant, but all have heard it before...

Paul Markham 02-14-2004 07:33 AM

One of the simplest ways to stop it is put the URL of the site it's on on the picture in a watermark. Then when it's stolen it's either there to be seen r obvious it's been removed.

Maybe a simple partial solution is for sponsors and TGPs to insist on a certain size image for instance 450 X 380 and a watermark, someone loads another size they are stealing from a TGP.

Probably not that simple though.

Standards on image size would be a big help. I often find myself reducing oversized images so they fit on the screen and to save BW.

Now how to get all the sellers to decide on a standard. Sometimes you want the resolution...
