PC memory question

I have 256mb memory in my new computer and just picked up a 512 card today, can I use both or do I have to use the same amounts of each? Like 256+256 or 512+512

256 MB DDR (PC2100)
That's what it has in it and I bought a 512 MB DDR PC2100 today.

If it's compatible with your motherboard and there's a free slot then slam that shit in!

as long as they are both PC2100 you will have no problems.

Well some boards have dual channel slots (they usually have matched color plastic at the base)

If this is the case I would put the ram in 2 DIFFERENT color slots becasue usually the matching slots are to run the ram in dual channel mode.

Its not absolutely necessary but it's a good idea.

you're good to go

:thumbsup
but you must put the 512 first then the 256

So I have to take out the 256, put in the 512 and the put the 256 back in, correct?
