Niteline---100 million in diamonds stolen
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/Prime..._040212-1.html
I read about this about 1 year ago but niteline did the entire show about it last night.. 100 million--the guy gets caught on purpose---max he can do is 5 years in prison---and they never found the DIAMONDS.. better than a movie.... |
Not the first time, and not the last that this will happen. But they are now engraving diamonds with a number that is unigue. And they will most likely bust anyone with a stolen on in their possession... Or at least take it from them...

|
yeah that's a great story, too bad it was nightline thursday and they had a terrible, terrible reporter doing it. I couldn't watch, I was embarrassed for the guy he was so bad.

Interesting Read, and Yes you can lazer engrave the girdle of a Diamond for identity purposes. If you have ever seen one, you also know that is can be polished out very quickly as well, if you know what you are doing:2 cents:

When watching niteline they said you do the same time for stealing 100 million or 100 dollars... I had a history teacher in High School that always said the same thing--if your going to steal do it big!!! |
BTW--as smart as the guy is he had to want to get caught or he would have opened his own safety deposit box. His box was the only one not opened in the entire safe...

Diamonds Shmiamonds...
Any geologist worth his quartz can tell you the biggest discovery and scam of the past 2,000 years is that diamonds aren't rare at all. They're just compressed carbon and that's one thing this planet won't run out of. Diamonds are like porn sites. Lotsa glitz but just a CJ in the long run. Only reason diamonds are so pricey is because the entire trade is controlled by one company. No one will buy or trade diamonds without that company's stamp of approval. |
