NHL in the RED - 75% of Gross revenues go to players

I think its only a matter of time before players are capped on how much they make.

75% of Gross gets paid out to players

Only 11 teams actually made money and 20+ teams lost money.

NHL loses 256 million/year

Think they'll make it through this? Think they'll cap players such as the NFL does? I think the next year or two in hockey will be interesting.

Time to shut those fucking wimpering morons who earn 902908396267 million dollars per season.

enough is enough already. How much money does someone need to live confortably? 2 millions/year should be enough for anyone.

They should put a salary cap of 5 million/year.

They need to limit every team to X amount of millions and fund the teams who dont make money. Then maybe we could actually watch some decent hockey games

They got two options really.

1) Go the way the NFL does
2) go the way MLB (and we all know how much the strike cost them, money aside)

Did you mention that hockey sucks now and no one is watching anymore? Well it does suck and no one watches unless they're super hardcore hockey fans. They're like a bunch of skating bitches at this point.

Some are saying there may be a lockout coming next year. Something has definitely got to give in the area of salaries.

Back in the late 60's - early 70's (when the Montreal Canadians dressed their greatest team ever), you had players that were decently payed, but few to none were paid over a million a year. They played for the love of the game..... Beliveau, Richard, Lapointe, Savard, Dryden...... Hull, Plante, Orr, Ritell, Esposito, Sittler, Howe....... All were considered high-salary players yet by today's standards they'd be getting paid less than the crappiest defenseman. It's all about to snap.

One suggestion I've heard is to give every player the same starting salary, and institute a bonus system whereby the players could earn much more money by their play. One thing about this idea is that you'd see "Stanley cup style hockey" for every game, but the drawback may be that it would contribute to the game becoming "all about money"...... which it pretty much is now anyway.

I agree the players should be paid a lot, many of them are worth it...... but there has to be a way to get back to when guys put on their skates for the love of the game, not to make their fucking agent happy.

I think that is the perfect solution to this, it'll also make the tickets they sell worth the amount they charge.

I dont like the idea of a cap, but the teams have to earn $$$ when the season ends, that should be the unique rule
