When you first started in adult, how much capital did you have

How much money did you start with when you opened your first site? How much of that money did you actually use, and has you investment paid off so far? I started with around $3000, and am really just getting started. Let's hear your stories.

i started with absolutely nothing.. used free hosting and worked hard day in day out, studying all about the biz, and the little profit i made i re-invested it the next month and that's exactly what ive been doing the last 3 yrs.. :)

I started my business with a 486 and a 14.4 modem before that I was dialing into bbs's with a 386 and a 2400 baud modem

arial 02-11-2004 11:56 PM

Hmmm $10 for my first virtual hosting package.

TaDoW 02-11-2004 11:58 PM

FlyingIguana 02-12-2004 12:05 AM

zero.

KRL 02-12-2004 12:17 AM

We bought our own telecom equipment and invested heavily into marketing for our adult pay-per-call business so it was in the 6 fig range back in the mid 80's.

Hmm. I strated shooting content having $1'000 and an old digital camera I bought on the auction of used goods... That seems to be more than many of you had when started, but this is really nothing when it's about content production...

jennycards 02-12-2004 12:18 AM

When I started my first AVS site I just used "public domain" content from newsgroups ... so capital requirements were pretty low :)

Toni 02-12-2004 12:20 AM

$ 0.00

gin 02-12-2004 12:22 AM

when i started my own sites, i started 1 month after i turned 18 right after i got out of jail, i was 25,000$ in the hole from restituion, 1 year later im a millionaire and just turned 19 :glugglug

quiet 02-12-2004 12:22 AM

my very first 'adult website' was hosted on my University account circa 1996. that didn't last very long though :)

V_RocKs 02-12-2004 12:23 AM

Domain name - $8.95
Hosting - $7 via paypal
Traffic - $5 also via paypal
A dream to be the next Hun's Yellowpages - Priceless.

Hardcore J 02-12-2004 12:23 AM

Nothing, and I've yet to make my investment back.

What this person meant to say is, there is no public domain but I broke the law and now I am somebody and I give to goodwill, so sue me!

Peter Romero 02-12-2004 12:27 AM

As a model... $0

As a scout/agent... $150 & a $300 good faith finders fee from photographer Ron Vogel. It lasted me a week in Vegas for CES. I came back to LA with 6 models.

As a webmaster $1000 ($750 went to Visa) and 3 years worth of content.

It's all paying off now.

Observing 02-12-2004 12:30 AM

Had nothing when I first started out.
I couldn't pay my bills irl either, but a friend of mine had a server where he would host my first site, I did the design myself but had another friend do the programming behind it. Suddenly it took off and I am not living happily ever after (right?!)

LA Mike 02-12-2004 12:31 AM

about 300 bucks.. then sold my CBR600 to buy a server :)

Well, you can't really start with 0.
Surely you must have had a computer, an internet connection, some software etc.

Unless of course you designed your first adult site in a public library ...

ryph 02-12-2004 12:52 AM

I paid 12$ for a domain name Tried TGP, which of coruse failed, but got my boost in SE work. Rest is history. PS. se people check the sig:winkwink:

Fuck how I wish I had done this back in college. I actually had a nice domain name and a $15 hosting package while I was working in the corp world back in 96. I even bought some content from zipcontent and made some galleries. That shit looked ugly but it was a site, not a paysite, just a free site, I added some galleries too it. But fuck I didn't know what I was doing I got busy with work and was making money at work and eventually let my hosting cancel like 3 months later and the domain expire after the year. Fuck if I had just kept the domain and basic hosting for these 8 years that site would be massive.

But back on the subject, I was employed my first go around and only invested about $50 or so.

The second time a few years back I started with about $100 and bought a domain and hosting and used sponsor content and made avs sites.

eroswebmaster 02-12-2004 03:00 AM

Had about $5K-$6K left in the bank to live on...didn't spend it wisely...LOL bought expensive tgp scripts etc...now knowing what I know I would have done a bunch of things differently.

Weppel 02-12-2004 03:03 AM

Couple of hundred bucks, bought me a bunch of domains and a dedicated server and started doing everything at the same time. Running a TGP, starting a paysite, submitting galleries. You name it i've done it back then.

KraZ 02-12-2004 03:05 AM

About $8,000 in equipment ... 3,000 in cash :)

Kicker 02-12-2004 03:07 AM

ModelPerfect 02-12-2004 03:42 AM

Wrong. I already had a pc and paid for my internet before I got into the biz.

I started with $0 as well.

xenigo 02-12-2004 04:20 AM

When I started shooting content I had $8,000 in the bank, and $24,000 in available credit.

Bruno 02-12-2004 06:08 AM

it's called 1996, basic unix text editor, and unlimited access to University computer labs.

i taught myself html the year before :)

cool1 02-12-2004 06:17 AM

I didn't have any start up money.

using free internet access at university and a free host and free content from the sponsor to get started

So I should thank the free host and sponsor for my being here
