Film School?

Hey guys,

Although I am currently in the adult biz, I ultimately want to end up in the mainstream film industry...

On the side I write screenplay's and make little indy films. I'm going to a university, but they don't offer a film program here. I looked into UCLA, but tuition there is about 20-30 Grand a semester, so that's a bit out of my price range.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a school specifcally for film? I.E. Directing, Editing, Producing school's... I did a search on Google but didn't come up with anything solid. Any help you guys can offer is much appreciated! :thumbsup

University of San Diego?

I don't want to go to a univ... more like a technical school that only offers film programs.

Actually Quentin didnt go to college , his education was working in video store and watching movies all day long.

NYU

Different film schools have different specialties. NYU is great for documentary-style/intellectual stuff, USC is much better for mainstream screenwriting, technical stuff, etc -- IMHO, of course. :Graucho

If you're looking for a purely technical school -- first off, I'd say don't bother. Get the lowest level job you can find with a studio (reading scripts, emptying trash cans, whatever) and go to the school of hard knocks.

If you're dead set on spending some money to 'learn the trade', take some cheaper classes at UCLA Extension -- easier to fit into a full-time work schedule, too. :2 cents:

I can't believe no one has posted Full Sail. It's in Florida, right near Orlando. www.fullsail.edu Excellent film school.

I would think UCLA would be the best!
Ever thought of some Canadian schools? A lot cheaper than U.S ones.

Rhino22 02-11-2004 07:17 PM

go to FAMU in Prague, the Czech Republic, much cheaper as Canada :1orglaugh

No, serieusly, at the moment they only have a master year for foreigners, but they have plans to open up all the classes next year.

Why FAMU, one of the best of Europe and yes there are several Americans who study there each year.
+ people like Brian De Palma come and talk, Matt Damon & Ben Affleck come to your student parties.

Can't wait to go there in september

I went to CDIS (Center for Digital Imaging and Sound) did the diploma program in Visual Effects and Digital Animation, it was okay. I hear they have good film programs. Check it out. They are located in Canada, BC. Vancouver to be exact. Watch it though, they are NOT cheap. Have state of the art equipment though.
