what are the pro's and cons of .xxx???

I am looking into it a bit more-
Good for the online business or bad?

chemicaleyes 02-11-2004 04:49 PM

leave the .xxx alone, they are worth nothing & you need a plug-in to view them

freeadultcontent 02-11-2004 04:51 PM

Its a good way for all of us to be moved into the ghetto and walled in.

Connor 02-11-2004 05:05 PM

No thanks on .xxx proposals... if we all had .xxx domain names, imagine the impact when companies like Yahoo and Google were pressured by the right into banning all .xxx submissions. And if we didn't all use them, then what's the point?

dunefield 02-11-2004 05:07 PM

i used to have britney-spears.xxx but i couldn't be fucked renewing the piece of shit...

mryellow 02-11-2004 05:08 PM

I wouldn't embrace .xxx too much I can see that congress will
probably have some stupid bill saying all adult material *must*
be on a .xxx domain. I know it sounds stupid when you think of
sites that have been around since domains were free but this is
politicians we're talking about.

agree,

but don't forget the left also, they are some kind of upset also about a little tit .

Ash@phpFX 02-11-2004 10:12 PM

pro: plenty of good domains available
con: the fucking things require a plugin

CamChicks 02-11-2004 10:24 PM

if .xxx was a real TLD

browsers/search-engines will have .xxx blocked by default,
and most users will not even be aware they're being filtered,
yet alone figre out how to turn it off.

and many ISPs will just block .xxx completely
so they can advertise how safe/family-friendly they are.

the US gov't may try to force all porn onto .xxx
which will leave only foreign sites available.

Cheshire 02-11-2004 11:10 PM

Pros are the chicks

Cons are the bustas

That can be read many ways...

Bullshit, it is quite easy to turn off the adult filter on any search engine, and I doubt it would change simply because .xxx came along. Personally, I think .xxx would be an alright idea, as it would allow for greater regulation of an industry which quite obviously can not regulate itself.

The truth is it might be actually be a good thing but webmasters are typcially too short sighted and small minded to see the bigger picture. The public wants porn, they aren't passively going to let the government outlaw and ban it totally and true .xxx extension won't require a fucking plugin.

Nas7782 02-12-2004 02:19 AM

Regulations could be bad. And if .xxx were forced by Congress, it's hard to say what is considered pornographic or borderline adults. An art museum in NewYork City was considered pornographic a year or two.

shameless plug-ins:

adults.xxx if anyone interested.

since we're predicting the future,
here is IMHO the most likely scenario:
(in this hypothetical .xxx world)

- government requires all porn behind .xxx domains

- family-friendly ISPs block .xxx domains.
'protecting kids' is a successful advertising angle.

- millions of Moms demand their familys use these ISPs

- business also block .xxx for obvious reasons

Dad now cannot access your sites from home or work.

Men want porn. Their wives usually do not. Men hide porn.
Most men will choose not fight with their wife about it.
You lose a huge percentage of the potential market.
(pussy-whipped men who would otherwise surf while wife is gone)

Of course this leaves foreign sites not subject to US regulation;
their sites will still be accessible. So it's a good thing for them.

mryellow 02-12-2004 05:21 PM

Just to hit my point again.

If you want to be an easy target....
Support .xxx

If you want to have an easier time remaining in the business....
No NOT support .xxx

It might seem "cool" to have a .xxx domain but tell that to PK or
thehun when they get an email from ICANN saying "You must
move all adult content from thehun.net over to thehun.xxx before
xx/xx/xx or your sites domain will be put on-hold.

Some idiot comes up with a stupid idea to regulate which
domains we can and cannot use and it'd be *us* that has to do
the hard work and pay the price.

That post was totally clueless, thanks for proving my point.

I have a sinus headache but other than that I am fine :-))

Actually was doing some research on the subject to see where adult webmasters heads were at on the issue-

With the Acacia stuff going on I was wondering if people still had any interest in the .xxx proposal that is all.
