Fucking password sites!
One of my sites is on several password sites and I emailed the site, then the email bounces back! For some reason, my script pass program isn't working 100% on this 1 site... already got ahold of tech support. Funny thing about these password sites is some paysite owners condone this... you can see their affiliate codes and/or banners all over them. I guess it's the unspoken word, doesn't matter how you make a buck... no wonder why this biz is so fucked up

Yea, I could fucking kill those people!

Here's a million dollar idea for free....
Make a site like that provides passwords to paysites... each surfer can access only one site (out of a list of hundereds) and he can access that site only 1 time... next time he clicks on the site he goes to the join page (cookie ip tracking like ccbill's stuff) |
I hate those password sites too.

Make a fake members area. A trial members area, if you will. Have the password sites list passwords to those areas instead.
Every lemon has a drop or two of lemonade. |

Fuckin password sites do suck.
before I set up my password protection They blew through 100gigs in one day on my main site. I use Password Sentry now it is cheap and easy to use. |
Some years ago I wrote my own script which logs all logins and IP's, and when some username is used by 5 different IP's in the last 24 hours, it was suspended temporarily.
I also worked on a script which detects excessive login retries and then blocks the IP of the attacker. Password sites usually use brute force attack. There's this strange thing about password sites... Once we noticed there had been thousands of logins using the same usernames for several days (there were no scripts then), and our sales tripled, it is strange, why would people sign up when tere's a free password to use? |
sweetcuties, you got icq? i'd like to have a chat with ya about this.

Those sites suck man and I hate them. Ive seen us jump to 50 and 60mbs and pretty much shut down the sites. Its easy to delete the usernames in ccbill once you find it. Not catching it can cost a ton though. |

Regarding the "count the IPs" scripts a coupel of people
mentioned - We had one of the first such scripts back around 1999 and back then it worked pretty well. The password sites, Yahoo! groups, brtute force script kiddies, and all the other annoying people had that little trick figured out by about 2001, though. "5 Ips in 8 hours" just doesn't do it anymore when half the links on password sites include the proxy and every single one of the software versions of password sites use such techniques to get by that PennyWize and other old BS "protection". Nowadays you need a much better approach. So, after it became clear that the "count the IPs" software we were installing, Blackbox, wasn't goingto cut it anymore, we started working on Strongbox. It's 2 years alater now and Strongbox is now here to give you the next generation security system for you site. Ask some of the real pros around here lke Kevin or DangerDave and see what they use now in 2004. |
my password site traffic converts 1:30, no shit.

I had a mod-rewrite script to share members areas, and it worked great until some ISP's started blocking referring headers. |
