If GFY was around in 96...

If GFY was around in 1996...

How much more money would have made or saved?

GFY is the great equalizer....

embraced and abused by newbies,

feared by kings and kingpins.

:1orglaugh

Adult webmasters originally were mostly anti-social computer geeks who were on the web before the rest of the world knew what AOL even was.

But I'm sure they would have loved a threaded message board community.

I never could get into non-threaded message boards... was far too unorganized.

In ~98 there were probably somewhere between 10,000-20,000 unique adult webmasters. (Not just paysite operators)

In ~96... I dunno.. but more than 50.

Real business people? :1orglaugh Actually those people were only the lucky ones who bought the first domain names and made tons of cash without working much. It was so easy to get traffic, the competition was low and sales were way easier to get than today. Most of those people made tons of cash without even investing any money...

Anyone here know who the ORIGINAL SEO expert was back in '96?

Before wiredguy and seguru?

come to think of it, anyone know who the first resource site to have a threaded forum forum was?

betcha dont ;)

KRL 02-11-2004 08:11 AM

Back in those days people were bitching about sites like The Hun having links into peoples sites backdoors.

Little did they know how big that concept would be.

I wasn't there in 96, I got into this business in the late 97. I've seen Serge, Webfather, Lensman, Fantasyman and lots of other old school webmasters chatting on the "non threaded boards" like the condom project and ynot...even though I wasnt there in the begining of the net, I have been around for 7 years so I do know how easier it was back in the day :) People didn't even know html, they would throw an ugly yellow page with a few links to playboy pics and millions of surfers would come :1orglaugh

no i dont have any idea
but when i joined the biz the only threaded boards were PC, GFY, and Xbiz

mryellow 03-21-2004 09:23 PM

I used to bitch a lot about not having a threaded board.
Guestbooks are just too hard to keep up with when everyone
posts "goodmorning".

yNot was probably the closest thing to GFY.... big difference with
GFY is the main forum is called "Fucking Around & Program
Discussion" back on the old boards discussing a programs
problems in public was a big no-no with lots of flames the result.

btw domains were free in the start.

Babagirls 03-21-2004 09:25 PM

hmmm...never thought about that. Not sure how GFY would have stood up in that era of the porn biz.

Axeman 03-21-2004 09:25 PM

No way this board would have competed with Ynot in the day.

Head 03-21-2004 10:08 PM

It was a very small group. Trading traffic had an entirely different Dynamic.
