WASHINGTON : US cable operator Comcast announced plans to buy Walt Disney Co. in a transaction that values the media behemoth at about 66 billion dollars, the Philadelphia-based cable giant said in a statement.

"This is a unique opportunity for all shareholders of Comcast and Disney to create a new leader of the entertainment and communications industry," Comcast's president and chief executive, Brian Roberts, said in the statement
