how to stop my comp from running at 100%

I don't know what in the fuck is wrong but lately my computer is running slow as shit. I'm typing this sentence out and the text shows up like five seconds after I type it.

I don't have much room left on my C or my D drive so is that the problem? Should I delete these 100+ videos that I have downloaded from kazaa?

But yes, windows uses your free diskspace for the swapfile, so you need to give it some room.
Also run Adaware and Spybot, you might have some spyware fucking with you. And check for viruses.

SleazyDream 02-10-2004 03:24 PM

threaten it with a baseball bat

ATL_Ryan 02-10-2004 03:24 PM

If you downloaded stuff off of Kazaa then your comp is probally filled with spy/adware.

Get spybot or some other adware remover.

lol...um no..this is a Sony Vaio Laptop...And I just removed the shit with spybot earlier today. I had a Russian Submitter program folder on my C drive that has taken twenty minutes to delete. I'm gonna have to go through all of this shit, delete it, and then clean the drives. I'm already moving a little faster after the RS folder got deleted.

After deleting, it's a good idea to defrag as well.

It seems like process IEXPLORE.EXE is taking 55k of memory . I would think that it's internet explorer but I have another process named explorer.exe that isn't using much memory at all.

IEXPLORE.EXE is internet explorer, yes. Leave explorer.exe alone, that's windows :)

woj 02-10-2004 06:24 PM

you of course tried rebooting?

404 02-10-2004 10:34 PM

download taskinfo. shows which process uses what %, also shows processes that the ctl-alt-del box doesn't.

a] Check your IEXPLORER.EXE isn't 1EXPLORER.EXE - if the latter then someone could be using your BW with a backdoor trojan.

b] Create a swap file on another drive - don't let windows use all your memory.

c] Make your browser cache limited to 40 or 60mb.

Just a few suggestions...good luck.:BangBang:

get one of those fat asses you call content to eat your pc.
:2 cents: :Graucho

lurking 02-11-2004 03:34 PM

if you have installed a lot of fonts recently, remove them and reboot. windows cannot handle a lot of fonts.

jimthefiend 02-11-2004 03:37 PM

go to dos

try typing: fdisk /mbr

that might clean it up

body 02-11-2004 03:40 PM

have the same probs LOL

JoeMan 02-11-2004 05:31 PM

How much memory do you have installed? If you are using most of it windows will have to continuously swap data from your memory out to disk and back to run multiple processes. Unfortunately disk access is much slower than memory access, so if you have a few programs/processes running which need more memory than your system can provide, say P1 and P2 it will run P1 for a little bit (milliseconds), than swap P1's data out to disk and swap P2 back in and so forth. If this happens your computer will slow way down since it will be continuously swapping to disk.

Anyway if your level of memory use is very high and you can hear your disk working all the time, this should be your problem. Best solution would be to get a memory upgrade, try mcglen.com they have very reasonable prices. Check streetprices.com also if you want to shop around for the best prices.

Hope this helps:thumbsup

I had this yesterday with statsremote. It was sucking cpu time and it was bcause it was hanging up on ccbill.

The same place where you did control+alt+delete it shows cpu usage. Just see where the hang up is.

mardigras 02-11-2004 08:54 PM

Go to Run and type in msconfig. click the startup tab and disable everything except your anti-virus and firewall.

TweetyBird 02-11-2004 08:55 PM

that would be a good start indeed :thumbsup
