Jimthefiends thoughts on the adult biz. (for newbies)

jimthefiend 02-10-2004 10:08 AM

lol what i told her:

Quote:

babe, its all about the $. loyalty and "friendship" are fictions in the vast majority of cases.
90% of the people in this biz will stab you right in the back AS they are buttfucking you without lube. as long as youre aware of that little fact you'll be fine.

Paul 02-10-2004 10:10 AM

Sounds about right unfortunetly :2 cents:

jimthefiend 02-10-2004 10:13 AM

and people wonder why im not lining up for every new affi program or sponsor. i try to keep my business as much in my control as possible. safer.
less $ prolly, but way safer.
and no one to blame but ME when shit goes awry.

dunefield 02-10-2004 10:16 AM

i dunno if i should trust you...

uvort 02-10-2004 10:18 AM

sounds about right

Basic_man 02-10-2004 10:18 AM

I think you're right! :thumbsup

stocktrader23 02-10-2004 10:19 AM

I trust several people I've never met in my life. Just from online biz.

Roger 02-10-2004 10:20 AM

Oh yeah I sure learned a lot.

Lane 02-10-2004 10:22 AM

not pointing fingers at anyone but since its related to the subject.... Most people who tell everyone not to trust anyone, are probably not trustworthy themselves..
When you accept something as a norm, some day you start finding yourself applying it..

Actually it appears like that for almost any buisness, not only adult.

thats total bullshit. you know damn well getting fucked over in this biz IS THE NORM. a little paranoia is nessecary. nice little trite witticism but utterly false.

oh for fucks sake.
how many "i got fucked by _blank_" threads get started a day in here?
or "i got shaved by so and so"?

come on man

Sly_RJ 02-10-2004 10:37 AM

I used to have that philosophy. I never went anywhere. Then I started to put a little trust in people. Even though I've ran into my fair share of flakes, I've gained a LOT more by trust.

Sometimes trust will fuck you over. Other times it will be the difference between $X weekly and $10X weekly. Trust is a risk, but so is business.

ValisMedia 02-10-2004 10:38 AM

Trust no one but me.

And? Do you know how much money I would be without if I never trusted anyone? A partner I've been working with for over a year has made me 10's of thousands of $$$ I wouldn't have had if I didn't trust him with some valuable info. That's just one of many people I work with on a regular basis, all of whom I trusted from the start.

And I believe in Karma.

i have a few i trust, agreed. but as a rule i think it pays to keep your business in your own hands and VERY close to the vest.

Regarding finances I'm somewhat of a control freak, so I know where you're coming from. I'm learning to "let go" a little bit and it really seems to be helping. You always need to have your ass covered, but it's ok to put a little faith in others once in a while.

Sly_RJ 02-10-2004 10:46 AM

When I was 15 I put a little trust in somebody I met online. We built some websites, split the profit. We had no contracts, I still have never met him, and I've only spoke on the phone with him once. As a junior in high school I was making $4-5k a month working 1-2 hours a day, never would have been able to do that without him.

Now I admit that yes, I was pretty lucky and maybe an exception to the rule, but just giving an example of what trust can do.

i learned that philosophy years ago, and it's gotten me everywhere.

i take chances all the time, but it's always calculated risk. i don't bitch if i get fucked over, i simply learn who NOT to deal with.

Couldn't have said it better. It's ALL about calculated risk.

I duno, I've found several people I trust online in this biz.. You just have to do your research on people before you make deals with them... But that's the great thing about these boards, they have a history and it's very easy to do a search on someone's name, to see what others think of them.. Adult is a very small community and once a scammers name is out there it's easy to find..

Just don't do any big deals with people you can't find references on..

Wow...that puts it in perfect perspective! Nicely done! :thumbsup

EmporerEJ 02-10-2004 11:09 AM

I think it's a bit cynical. While i'm sure there are many bad people out there, I've met more decent honest upstanding people than I have bad people.

And I've been around a bit. The evils of our biz don't usually last very long. I've found that if you cheat people the word quickly spreads. I've noticed when a company announces the tiniest change to one of their progarms, it's usually shouted here. Same goes for copyright infringement, and non-paying sites/photographers.

No, i don't think that's an accurate saying. It sounds "cheeky" and cute, but i think it's a bit biased. Maybe you are just hanging out with the wrong people?

fuelcell 02-10-2004 11:22 AM

I'm way too trusting. And a bit on the gullible side. But I've learned the hard way - you've got to do business but stay cynical. Everyone in this business - perhaps in any business - are out for themselves, bottomline. I've been fucked like everyone has but hahahaha - everytime it's happened I ended up better off.

A big :321GFY to the backstabbers and a big :thumbsup to the backstabbers -- I always come out on top, baby.

great for you, if I only had a partner when I was 16 and
started, then I hadn't been sitting on my butt without a clue..
you need to work to make money on the internet..took me like
6 months to figure that out lol.

I say trust some but don't be stupid. I think I was the first that
used $5 sumissions. I was hard like a brad shaw against him
just to make sure that everything was green before I hired him
for some text work..

sorry $5 :)

great work btw.
