A New Sniper Case - Why No Publicity?

Why is there not a lot of publicity surrounding the new sniper attacks in Ohio. When Malvo and Mohammad went on their sprawl the media went absolutely nuts! Why not with this case? Are sniper murders so yesterday that the media wont cover it because people wont tune in as closely? It has to make you wonder.

Good question, I think the media plays it down because its not in the Washington DC area. Seems when things happen here its really played out big time. :2 cents:

Since its the Nations Capital

Maybe they don't want widespread panic from the public especially since this is another sniper incident...

Could you imagine how many people would stay boxed up inside their houses because they're scared of something happening to them...

I agree with you to a certain degree. There have been 23 reported shootings in Ohio and if you go to any major news site it's buried in the "Around the Nation" quips area and nowhere near the headline. When the DC sniper got off two rounds, it stayed on every headline, news channel, and radio talk show until they captured M&M.

My opinion is that it's happened before therefore it wont create as big of a draw for ratings. People have that "Been There, Done That" mentality when it comes to news and the sniper cases are old news. :2 cents:

I hear about it all the time on the Detroit news, well everytime there is a new shooting. Because they have only killed one person or so, its not getting the coverage nationally I suppose like that other case.

Yes that certainly can be true that its viewed as old news. When it happend here they even closed down public schools for a day. The media freaked everyone out. But, I think your right when you said been there done that.

Because the elections are coming up, and everyone's terrified that they'll look like incompetent idiots if he's not caught beforehand.

Tasteless, but funny

Keev 02-10-2004 10:39 AM

why give him undue press, publicity for things like this only produce copycats.

spamofon 02-10-2004 10:41 AM

propably because those ones were black and muslim and this one is white and christian

Also partially politics - there was plenty of publicity when several British Airways flights from London to Washington DC were cancelled or delayed due to "terrorist threats", but nothing when someone smuggled live ammo through security at Dullas and boarded a flight FROM Washington DC to London...

BigFish 02-10-2004 10:49 AM

Dumb fucking idiots. It's amusing watching some of you people come up with conspiracy theories. Everytime the D.C. sniper shot, somebody DIED. This new sniper is just shooting and aiming at cars driving by, not at people's heads. There's a difference OBVIOUSLY!! Only one person died as a result of the bullet going through the door (out of about 23 shootings).

TaDoW 02-10-2004 10:52 AM

because the malvo case, for the most part, was 1 shot, 1 kill ... and they killed like 20 folks. this guy is a shitty shot and has only killed one person.

I didn't realize they knew the DC snipers were Black and Muslim until after they caught them! Also, how do you know this newest sniper isn't black and/or Muslim?

I think BigFish hit the nail on the head about the sniper just randomly popping off shots at moving cars vs. ambushes where they actually target someone.

liquidmoe 02-10-2004 10:57 AM

I was in Ohio two weekeneds ago around Columbus visiting a friend and we were driving down the highway that the sniper usually covered. When he started telling me about him I had no idea, this really has gotten like zero national coverage. Most likely its because there havent been as many actual deaths as with the DC sniper, or maybe cause its Ohio and no one cares.

But hitting a moving vechile doing 60mph is a bit more difficult than hitting a person filling up at a gas station unless you are positioned directly in front of the oncoming car. Still some fuct up shit, though I thought they had someone in custody who supposedly confessed to the shootings.

lock 02-10-2004 11:14 AM

This may not have the coverage you expect nationwide but you can bet that in Ohio it is main headlines.

jaYMan 02-10-2004 11:29 AM

I think its cause this sniper is a really really bad shot.

;/ Scary shit though. Its really close to home too.

JustJen 02-10-2004 12:12 PM

I live in Columbus. It is big news here, but still not as big as it should be. I never drive the route this guy is shooting at, which relieves me. Bet it is some stupid ass person from Michigan LOL:BangBang:

laura99 02-10-2004 12:33 PM

Yeah I have a friend that lives in Columbus and she tells me all about it. I've seen it a few times on our local news here but we are only 3 hours from there.

cosis 02-10-2004 12:37 PM

Whenever I drive to Akron I never take that highway anymore

Wasnt this guy shooting with a handgun yesterday from a bridge?

Hitting a moving target is a lot harder - especially a car.... They will only get more publicity when he actually kills another person

GonePhishing 02-10-2004 12:58 PM

You make a good point. I wonder why they have not reported on this more.
