anyone here ever invest big in internet stock, and lose bigtime?

don't be shy :)

i never invested a penny, but watched the entire thing unfold (with great interest) from the late 90's to the burst bubble.

I am sitting on a few hundered thousand shares that used to be worth a few bucks. Not anymore though. But still alive. I was an angel investor - fun while it lasted. Now just a paper shuffle.

Oh well, its only money...

:eatmouse

PS. Adult industry is a lot more fun!

Yeah I was raped.

The stocks of the companies that still exist are way down for me.... even after a great runup the past year, I am down about 25% from even. ( I am not even going to talk about from the high! )

Anyone have a good 401k program? I need a job!

goBigtime 02-10-2004 02:42 AM

lost many, "won" a few.

I would always play big on call/put option contracts.... it's more like gambling than investing when you do it that way :glugglug

In the stock market, a few good winners can make up for a lot of losses though.

fuzebox 02-10-2004 02:47 AM

Invested quite a bit (relatively speaking) of my income into a dotbomb that I thought was going to make it...

Now the shares are still locked to this day, can't be traded because the company is undergoing criminal investigation. :eek7

BigFish 02-10-2004 02:47 AM

lost a lot during the dip but got it all back last year and more.

RP Fade 02-10-2004 02:48 AM

yup..i use to be a trader...made money..lost money..if I learned one thing it's that you don't over leverage yourself and you must divesify your portfolio.

sexsup 02-10-2004 03:26 AM

I invest in stocks, also net stocks, but I dont think I've lost big time

My worst single tech stock was a real loser. I had 100,000 shares. It peaked at $18. I knew the CEO and he literally begged all the major shareholders to hold on so the stock wouldn't dive.

While we were all holding on he unloaded millions of shares. Last I checked it was at $0.001 cents.

So that one went from $1.8 Million to $100.

Yeh sucks. The CEO held 26 Million shares so his holdings were up to about $468 Million before the dive.

From what I heard he was still able to get out about $20 Mil as the stock dove and everyone else was hangin on, believing his bullshit about a major acquisition of the company that turned out to be all bullshit.

strobi 02-10-2004 05:17 AM

Got some share I bought at 32$ and sold at 0.15$:( Learned alot since then:thumbsup

LOL, the Vice Chairman of the Board is still a friend of mine. He got taken too and lost about $100 Million. He's Italian and went into the CEO's office and ripped the piss out of him.

The guy moved out of state he got so fucking scared thinking a contract was going to be put out on him next.

If I even bring the subject up with him, he literally has flashbacks and his viens pop up.

That's a tough one to swallow.

He made some other investments though that turned out ok and still has about $6 Mil net worth. But going from $100 Mil to under $10 Mil is indeed harsh on the ego and the wallet.

Shoehorn! 02-10-2004 05:25 AM

Yup.

100 M, to 6 M. yeah, that's pretty harsh (extreme understatement). even though with great promise, also comes great risk.

Lykos 02-10-2004 06:58 AM

Ouch that has to suck. Sorry to hear about the shares being locked up. How long have they been locked?

bugout 02-10-2004 07:20 AM

I got killed on transmeta.. :(

but I've made up for all stock blunders i ever made when I bought 10k AOL for $1 in 94 and its split 7 times since...

alkemyst 02-10-2004 07:39 AM

What's even worse is I know a few guys that 'financed' the capital gains they owed the IRS (some owed more in taxes than they made in salary).

I know one guy still paying, his stock capped in 7 figures then quickly died out and he could not unload it fast enough, that sucks. The capital gains are sort of unlimited. The capital loss is limited to the cash basis...in his case was like $0 since all were 'gifts'.

He would have been in better shape financially if he turned down these gifts.

pimplink 02-10-2004 03:04 PM

Yeah, I invested in WEBM and Microstrategy when they were soaring high. :(

SleazyDream 02-10-2004 03:08 PM

the only stock i own is in some mutual funds - there was some tech stock holdings in them but nothing serious and it was such a small percentage it didn't really matter.

Monk 02-10-2004 03:58 PM

From $3500 down to sub-$5..... wonder how many poor bastards bought and held that all the way down?

... yes, lost big, but gained even bigger. currently I am up middle 6 digits with ACTG.

bjs24 02-10-2004 04:34 PM

I moved into bonds before the big run down and made pretty good money. Still own a lot of those bonds but over the past year have moved back into stocks but that probably wont last much longer. If your just now thinking about getting back in your probably to late.

Just an opinion.
