Now it's really time to ditch Internet Explorer....
|
its just firebird with a new name, bid deal
|
I'm using it now, GTK2 + Xft right out of the box plus my favourite extentions and I must say it's very nice. :)
|
Does it mess up anything on Explorer when you install it or uninstall it?

--- No.. its passive & plays nice. |
Doh, I cant download it, the download link dosent work :(
|
Their ftp servers must be fully maxing out with 10 million geeks all trying to download it at once, keep trying or wait a few days until the initial rush dies down.
The Mozilla project really does kick ass, a great example of what open source is all about. :) |
I'm don't know my url to my firebird screenshots... but they show how I setup my firebird toolsbars.
I have it so there are 3 tiny toolbars up top. The bottom is the google bar with all the cool buttons and features that googles toolbar doesnt have. The only thing that sucks is the missing PR meter.. but the other one-click buttons I put up there more than make up for that :) one click icons using your [ search word ] using google web, "within this page", google images, google groups, google news, dictshunairy & more. I use the shit out of that google bar. |

Also check out Mozilla Thunderbird OpenOffice.org (Awesome. & Free - Export to PDF even) IzArc -- replace winrar There is a lot of good open source stuff out there now days. |
Fuck Mozilla.
Get Opera, and you will forget the rest very soon. About OpenOffice, it runs on Java (!), which makes it fucking slow. Not with small files, use it a while, you'll see what I mean. And it is NOT 100 procent compatible with MS documents. Not at all. Maybe version 3 or 4. MS is trying (with the new XML patent) to fuck with OpenOffice. We'll see. |
I used to be a diehard Opera fan, and thought that Firebird was the redheaded stepchild. Then I actually tried it, and found that with a bit of time spent configuring it, it's actually better IMO - just as fast, if not faster, and much more extensible and configurable. The fact that it's open source, as well as the philosophical aspects, means there's a lot more you can do with it. I've also found that (the linux version at least) renders pages a little better than Opera does.
OO is also pretty fucking wicked for a free product, although yes M$ is doing it's best to fuck it (as you'd expect). You also don't have Bill Gates looking over your shoulder the whole time. :-P |
