Any way you look at it I think the guy is just old school. If he was coaching like this in the 50's no one would think anything of it, he's just being tough. I wouldn't be afraid to have a coach like him, you know your coach isn't going to kick your ass, he's just going to get in your face, talk and scream a lot of shit, maybe grab you, big fucking deal. His kids play harder than others and graduate and get good grades, doesn't that count for something.
