homing pigeons were around since 2900 BC, how did they find their way when there were no roads?

Dirt paths ?? they say that they even follow turnpike's and waste time following the highways. If they actually had a built in compass they would fly in straighter lines.

Or maybe new age pigeons are lazier ?

with todays' ever expansive highways and thoroughfares, it be alot easier. but you gotta think about just how many dirt paths there may have been back then in 2900BC... like one?

i think they just made a guess after wasting ten years on it. LOL

LOL thats a good theory as well :)

Also there could be other factors involved. Maybe there more bugs ( to eat ) over the highways , or maybe they follow food paths that follow the highways. ?

Seems like a fairly quick assumption to make. I hope they got a grant and not a loan to fund that.
