What is the "Extreme Edition" ???

Get A 2.4c (800mhz 2.4) and a Abit IC7-G motherboard and some decent PC4000 memory... overclock to 3.6ghz with standard air cooling :Graucho

unconnected 02-05-2004 12:52 PM

even oc'ed to 3.6 you aren't going to get a 2 MB L2 cache

TaDoW 02-05-2004 12:53 PM

it offers fisting and scat emulation.

after spending all that money - why not just wait another month until they come out with a 3.6 ghz proc?

Definitely not worth the $$$$ You'd likely not notice the extra speed all that extra money bought. Worth it for bragging rights only and that only for about a week.

AdultNex 02-05-2004 01:57 PM

I was interested in purchasing this, so I did some Google searches on it.

Found out that it's not worth the extra money. Go with the Athlon 64.

Over Clocking is bad =)

Yo guido, if you want the best of the best, this is the shizzle! It supposedly has 2MB of on-board cache which in regular terms means you can play a game, listen to mp3s, burn a cd, record tv all at the same time without seeing any performance hit. Extreme edition is like the extreme "gamer/multimedia" edition of the Pentium 4. I've had my eye on it for a while, so if you can lay down the serious $$, it's the ultimate processor out there today.

Wait until the prescott chips are released, and they will come down in price :-)

only if you do a lot of gaming you will take advantage of the P4EE...

Its a xeon processor with 2 megs of cache that intel released at a normal p4 so they can say that the p4 is quicker then the athlon 64 bit cpu its the only p4 thats quicker then the 64 fx its about $300 more then the 64 fx also.

AMD BAD.

It's great that they're there competing with Intel and pushing both speeds forward and prices down.

However, AMD chips run so friggin hot that we had to get extra fans and extra large power supplies to get them to not crash. I am paying for 2 rack spaces instead of 1 because they require massive heat sinks. I am no longer purchasing AMD's for servers, and I am doing Intels for all the other machines because they run a LOT colder.

Anyone else see the tom's hardware video of what happens to AMD's when you pull off the heat sinks?
