MPEG and RealMedia (.rm)...
Div-x sux becasue it ternds to freeze on slower comps |
Mpeg
doesn't require codex for older machines, highest quality if run at 1 min = approx 10mb at 320x240 and doesn't compress the sound quality or picture. It's compatible with all machines and is simply the BEST way to have one format that fits all. I would suggest though, for slower connections, to have a wmv version as well. But if you only want one, DEFINITELY go with .mpeg. :) EDIT: Also, don't just take it from me... ask Quiet what format he uses and why.... :glugglug |
MPEG :thumbsup
Use tmpgenc to compress it to a smaller size |

Well what do you want to do with the movies - it all depends. |

That's true too. My mpeg recommendation is for downloadable movies. I am not sure what the best media is for streaming. My guess would be .wmv but I am not certain. |
mpeg @350k 320x240 for free stuff and at 600k for members areas. tmpgenc batch utility rox
wmv for streaming - nearly all the world can stream wmv rm? who the hell wants to install real player? qt? fuck quicktime! |

do your surfers really want to install something to watch movies on your site? my point is, to reach the biggest audience with the least amount of effort... mpg and wmv. |
MPEG1 for TGP
WMV for stream video (paid sites) http://www.videocharge.com - the best tools for split and convert clips |
I would say mpeg1 also...runs on almost any setup
|
Offer WMV for streaming, they are damn near half the size of MPEG and are better quality. Then offer MPEG's for download, the slow net users will love ya for it and the high speed users can full screen higher quality WMV's..
RealPlayer is trash because of the player, shit loads of users don't have it because of the player. |

LOL, I doubt you'll find much available titlewise on Beta outside of the used market, was referring to quality:)
|
mpeg is my favorite, without a doubt.. least fav would have to be avi or rm
|
i like to use fingerpuppets to reinact scenes
|
why not offer seveal format options per movie on a gallery?
|
Compress 'em *.swf
It's the smallest compression out of any of them and everybody can see Flash. Bandwidth is the name of the game. I took a 5Mb *.avi compressed with divX and other tricks to get it to keep quality and compress small. After dealing with it to make it an *.swf it remains the exact same quality only now the file size is 900Kb and plays on any machine with a Macromedia player installed. Wanna talk saving 4Mb bandwidth-burn on just one vid? |
