UK police seek web porn crackdown

UK police are contacting other forces worldwide in an attempt to close down websites with sexually violent content.
The move follows the murder of Brighton teacher Jane Longhurst by a man addicted to web porn.

Graham Coutts, 35, from Hove, had downloaded hundreds of images of asphyxia and necrophilia before he strangled Ms Longhurst last March.

This guy had a mental health problem long before visitng any porn sites. Sounds like the industry is being made a scapegoat yet again for our societies crop of twisted individuals.

Victim's mother in web porn plea:

The mother of teacher Jane Longhurst - whose killer has been jailed for life for murder - is demanding the closure of some pornographic internet sites.
Graham Coutts used websites depicting violent pornography to satisfy sexual fantasies, Lewis Crown Court had heard.

UK is in a freakin mess. They're the most spied on citizens in the world, and now the government wants to allow itself the right to arrest suspects and give them secret trials instead. Even the defendant wouldn't be able to see the evidence against him.

The UK is going down the drain, and expect crime to rise more and more as the years go by.

And now obviously they wanna put a stop to free speech because of a so called murderer.

Sarah_Jayne 02-05-2004 06:44 AM

I said yesterday that this would be whipped up and anyone in the UK that has a bdsm site needs to be paying attention.

If anyone in the UK is interested there is a discussion about this on radio 5 live at the moment.

All of these news reports are pissing me off because they are using qoutes from the family as fact about our industry's intentions and not one peson from the industry has been qouted.

Ross 02-05-2004 06:46 AM

That is just one freak. Anyway some of the sites you see are a bit out of line anyway. Time they did something about them.

lock 02-05-2004 06:48 AM

necrophilia and bondage arent same thing.

quantum-x 02-05-2004 06:50 AM

flipside.. is it better that these people can get off on the images [hopefully 'play' asphyxia etc] online, as opposed to going out and doing it in real life?

Exzactly that is so true, If this guy didn't have net access the only diference is he would have probably murdered earlier.

you and I know that but it will make no difference in the tabloid frenzy. The sister on one tv interviewed called for a crack down on anything that shows violence against women (what, it is okay to be violent towards men?)

Didn't she have to explain how her sister was dumb enough to go out with a psycho time-after-time?

going down the drain, but we will all be stoned! Canabis downgraded on Thursday, no longer an arrestable offence to have personal ammounts :)

genomega 02-05-2004 10:07 AM

That's the idea, keep you all stoned and you will not care what they do to you.

Seems like a lot of people don't understand what the new classification of the drug means.

Fuck off, everything you just said is WRONG,

Crime is DOWN to its lowest level in years, yes we have thousands of camera's so what? I feel safer with them. The non public trials is for very specific crimes and is only in discussion at the moment, this would have to go through parliment and will likely never happen.

BTW the whole internet story at the top of the page has come about because nobody polices the internet, it's left up to the laws where the site is hosted. Police / the authorities want to at least place some international laws in place for certain types of websites.

The thick people don't, it's simple it's been downgraded into another category of illegal drugs.

This means is you have a small amount for personal use it's unlikely you would be arrested. It's now classified with steroids etc. The law change was to allow police to concentrate on more serious drug use and tackling the dealers who fund other crime from dealing.

Is it wrong?
Crime is down for sure but as I said it's gonna go UP as a result of all those new measures.

Very specific crimes? Yeah sure, besides how exactly would you know since those are private trials? Do you blindly trust your government?

Really? The Internet committed the crime now? He murdered a woman on the internet? Interesting.

DVTimes 02-05-2004 04:14 PM

I think its an easy thing to do is blame the internet.

I bet if Jack the Ripper was alive today, then the net would have got the blame.
