What is a good country to live?

Safe, cheap, no or very low taxes, where the Dollar is actually worth something, good banking system, good internet access, warm but not crazy warm...just a nice t-shirt temperature. And hot chicks would be nice as well.

Im more and more thinking about leaving the country...i can live good here with the money i make or i can live like i king in another country. The bills and taxes are slowly killing me here.

arial 02-04-2004 12:01 PM

Australia or New Zealand maybe?

Amputate Your Head 02-04-2004 12:02 PM

Im moving to and small Island outside Spain called Canary Island soon. I like it there.. Sunny, low tax, lots of beer, cheap to live..

a1ka1ine 02-04-2004 12:09 PM

what about mexico :-) its like the US but without all the constraints of law and stuff right????

or cuba?? :-)

id move to the british virgin islands.. one with a decent net link. they use the US dollar, so you wont lose anything in the currency exchange like you would if you were in spain/canaries

You're suggesting someone from Amsterdam move to America because America is the "land of the free"?

Canary Islands are cheaper as spain for legal reasons. But I would prefer ibiza because there is the best climate all over the mediterranean sea. Cheap? It depends on what you need. Of course it is not as cheap as romania, but it is worth living there.

Lets meet and discuss the moving, I´ll share a finca with you.

natkejs 02-04-2004 12:44 PM

I'm open for suggestions too, Sweden is gettin' old and the taxes are crazy!

Brazil huh? It's a nice country but not a nice place to live at if ya have cash, I had a co-worker there and he had to skip town ... was making a few K a month and all of a sudden his family was a great target for kidnapers.

I'm not sure I'd like to do that ;)

I was going to suggest the Caymen Islands, seeing as how you don't pay any income tax whatsoever as a resident there, and their banking system is very good too.

That is, until I saw the price per month for cable modem service listed on this page..... http://www.caymans.com/cost_of_living.html

:eek2 holy freaking shit mon :eek2

with the exception of their Internet Access, everything else on that list is still more expensive here.

Yea, I could handle everything else on that list, but the price for cable modem is a definite deal breaker.

But remember, one CI dollar is equal to $1.25 USD, so those prices are even higher than they look. The half-gallon of milk for example.... it would be about $5 US. Here in Winnipeg we pay only $3 for a full 4-litre of milk.

Battuss, look at Vancouver island, BC, Canada. The weather is as you described, if you don't mind rain you're good to go. From what I hear the cost of living isn't as high as it is in Vancouver, so that might be just what you're looking for.

In my opinion, Thailand is the perfect place to live. It has all the right elements for a non-citizen to live like a king. It is crazy cheap. It is a stable economy with a stable political system and respect for authority and the law, so it isn't completely corrupt (relative to most countries in the region that is). The infrastructure is first-world standards so the banking, transportation, telephone, electrical grid...systems all work fine. The weather is tropical. The culture is enriching to be around. They are a proud country and people of their history and culture and are mostly friendly and accepting of foreigners. The food is awesome. There are a ton of neat side trips to make in the country and to surrounding ones.

tayloryum 02-04-2004 01:27 PM

sounds like you are describing florida (no income tax from what i have heard, lots of hot chicks).
