2004: Microsoft Dominates All SEs

Why hasn't MS bought up Teoma and/or Vivisimo and put its massive brand power behind a system that is as good or better than google at relevant search results?

Seems to me they would own the search engine space within a year...

Thoughts? Anecdotes? Insider Information?
Inquiring minds want to know.

MS is building their own SE to kill Google

gornyhuy 02-02-2004 09:00 AM

I have no doubt they CAN do it, and I wouldn't be surprised if Gates is boiling over at his lack of dominance in that space, but when in the history of microsoft have they gone with a build over a buy approach?

They bought DOS, stole Windows, bought IE, etc...
Seems like they could buy teoma and rebrand it in 2 days. :2 cents:

It says Teoma is a AskJeeves.com company...

amazon.com works on a SE as well

MS dominating SEs is the least we need

Ash@phpFX 02-02-2004 10:51 AM

they will become a much bigger player in the SE market over the next few years

pradaboy 02-02-2004 11:15 AM

M$ will definately move in on Google, probably this year already and dominate the SE market in 2005/2006

JustSmokeIt 02-02-2004 11:47 AM

Yeah, I heard Google was in talks with Microsoft a few months ago.

Whatever Bill can't buy, he destroys.

Doesn't nightsurf dominate the hell out of msn search anyway?

jimmyf 02-02-2004 11:52 AM

Search engines come and go. Google does not have lock.

If they launch a real SE, will Webpower still have all adult terms via Nightsurf?
