Why don?t ISPs use Virus Filters?
I am wondering why the ISPs don?t filter all my mail for me. Would that not help resolve a big portion of the virus problem? Is it a privacy issue?
|
Some ISPs do filter mail. I'm surprised more don't. It would help a lot with existing viruses, worms, and trojans. However, if ISP filtering were widely adopted, the authors of the programs would simply add more randomness to their programs, to get around the filters, just like spammers get around spam filters.

That's actually a good question. The software is out there to do it.

if your ISP doesn't filter out a lot this garbage that is going around I would suggest you seek another ISP.

I use anti-Virus software... does the job. |
You'd think they'd at least filter out the ones with that fucking DELETEDO.TXT attachment.
Christ, just getting my email is a fucking process. I set up a mail rule to trash them, but it takes all fucking day for them to download and filter. I know, I gotta set up the server to eat them. Another fucking expense. I hate these fucking viri. fuck fuck fuck. |

The ISP's responsibility is to provide you with internet access, period. Anything else is gravy. |
If I used a isp email account and they filtered my mail I would cancel my service. Email is a pretty important thing and it needs to be reliable.

I asked one of our hosts, and the tech acted like they would charge us for each email account.

The solution is simple: Get another host. We install email filtering, both viruses and spam, for FREE for any client who asks for it with NO user limit. |

We have mail filters for viruses where I work. Catch so many of them each day it isn't even funny too laugh at.
