Is it worth it to rescue pets?

I'm sitting watching CNN, and they have a 30 sec feature spot where they talk about two pets that were rescued.

I like companion animals as much as the next person...but damn they are animals.

CNN featured a deaf and blind dog that was rescued by a rescue team...

Is that necessary? How much tax payer money goes into that???

Why not go out there with a rifle and put the dog out of it's misery.

It would be a lot cheaper, and the money saved could go to emergency care to children...or back to the tax payer

I personally believe that yes it is worth it. Animals have just as much right to live as humans do. They have sould spirits and consciences. They may not be able to talk or verbally express how they feel to the point where we understand them but they are living breathing creatures.

In my opinion, that would be like abortion. It's a living breathing creature, why kill it? It has a right to life. There are lots of other options.

i love animals & have had family members get pets from Rescue Shelters. :)

Personally I'd rather see an animal rescued than some human who's probably a fucking idiot.

I think not depending on the circumstances. Spending $50,000 to rescue a dog is not really worth it. The money could be spent to save many more childrens lives.

who rescued the dog? from what/where?
most "animal rescues" are non-profit organizations that rely on donations. :2 cents:
they have teams that go out into the field too.

if somebodys pet can be SAFELY retrieved from a bad situation, why not?
police risk their lives to retrieve stolen cars.. and losing a car is far less heartbreaking.

I have no idea, CNN didn't have any details on what organization was responsible for the rescue.

It depends on the comparison. A society should do both: emergency care to children and emergency care to animals and of course emergency care to environment.

There are always arguments not to do a thing. But of course there are several stupid things to spend money on. And there never will be more money spent on emergency care to children if there is less money spent on emergency care to animals.

Politicians will spend the saved money on stupid parties, not on social health.

Probablly better to donate the money to World Widlife Fund if you want to save animals in my opinion. A domesticated animal isn't worth it.

Pets, as we call them, are merely hapless souls living in an environment created by humans. When they find themselves in unfortunate situations - usually created by us - they become helpless creatures that are victims of our own stupidity, not thiers.

So yes, saving them is justified in my mind because we created the trappings that put the animal in harm's way to begin with. We as a species enjoy the company of these wonderful creatures in our "world" so we better damned well take responsibility when they fall into unfortunate situations.

They give us unconditional love and stand by us through thick and thin. What would make anyone think that we don't owe them the same consideration and adoration?

Also, note that WE humans are animals too - we're just a different species. And what we do to help other species of animals is mearly a statemtent of our deserving to keep being a living species.
