<<Strange Problem>> Top of reboot, anyone know ?
My wife's machine was working fine, and then started to hang really bad on reboot. XP Pro.
I mean, like an hour to get to loaded desktop. First thing I checked was cpu fan. It's fast, quiet and cool. Got to desktop and checked processes. NOPBD.EX E was using all available resources. So, I uninstalled Norton Sys Works, ran checkdisk and all was great. Reinstalled Norton Sys Works. Tried to do DATs. Get message, "updates cannot be completed because all update files are corrupted". WTF ? So, I go to Symantec and do manuals. Try to execute manual update exe, and that says Norton is corrupt. It's almost like something got in there and fucked up norton, and then when it's removed and installed, the program is corrupt from the start. Any ideas? |
Sorry, no ideas
I had the same thing with Norton ages ago though, fucked up my system quite badly. Finally would only work after re-partitioning and an entire clean installation. Without Norton. I'll never go near it again. |
I was thinking something along the same lines.
After I uninstalled it this morning, everything was quite fast and crisp. I'm thinking of taking the machine off-web and getting a new drive ready to move to before something really bad happens. I have a year old McCafee here, but I remember somehow it fucked with one of her design programs or something one time. Maybe I go to radio shack and see what's available. |
Windows sucks, end of story. I only use it for testing pages under IE and playing games, and even with all the updates and current AV I'm still always paranoid something's going to fuck out.
