What is even crazier is that if Hitler hadn't been so insistent on pushing into Russia at all, we'd live in a totally different world right now.

Russian weather, landmass, and people saved our planet. That and misjudgement.

You have to play Call of Duty, it's an amazing game, and it's quite the eye opener.

You (russian conscript) are headed across a river to stalingrad in a large boat with about 20 others. All the boats around you are getting blown to hell by the nazi planes swooping overhead. There are army guys around the endge of the boat with machine guns yelling at you to make the motherland proud, and not to take one step backwards, or you will be shot.

You land, and in the frenzy of getting off the boat, you end up thrust in front of nazi machine guns with no weapons for yourself.

And thats just the first 5 minutes of the russian campaign. You play as the britts, americans, and russians.

Check it out!

I have seen a holywood movie about Stalingrad. The scene in the game is from the very movie. Actually...hollywood has nothing to do with the truth... But our troops realy landed without weapons - fought with teeth, hand....Hard to imagine. The word Motherhood really ment much for them. Those with the guns - mostly emphasised by the hollywood. It's a pity.

My German grandfather fought in Stalingrad, and he would never speak of the war to anyone. Apparently he had some troubles with many types of food after though, as many German soldiers (as were Russians) were forced to live off of such things as wall paper glue and sawdust to survive (him amoung them at one stage).

Highly recommended from a year or so ago:

Enemy at the Gates

Great focus on the sniper, as a hero to the Russians, when they needed something to keep their moral going.

I think he means a documentary, and not a hollywood movie, lol. Atleast that is what I hope he means.

One of the greatest battles in history, also one of the most vicious. Opening scene of "Enemy At The Gates" is the movie your thinking of.

Little known fact: During the battle's later stages food was so scarce that the Germans set up special execution units to hunt down cannibals. The Russians didn't, after all, food is food.

:winkwink:

My wifes grandfather was 1/2 german 1/2 russian.

His job for the russians was to interrogate nazi prisoners.

Awsome fuking stories this guy would tell about tourturing the nazis.:thumbsup

Enemy at the Gates was a great movie.

Kinda intense in parts where your waiting with the snipers, just waiting for something to happen.

Sorry to say but it's the silliest and one of the most slandering movies (like almost all holywood films touching upon Russians). I stopped watching in half an hour.
When I started the thread I meant documentary. Interviews with Russian and German soldiers, historical facts.

The average period of life of the rank-and-file during the battle was about 20 minutes for Russians.
Actually I cant wait till the moment I come to Volgograd (formely Stalingrad) to see the monument Motherland and put a wreath on the water of Volga river...
