anyone enjoy working offline a couple of hours each day

i have a daily routine where after doing email in the morning (as long as there is no major issues to deal with), i always go out to a coffee shop and work for 2.5-3 hours on my laptop. uninterupted, offline work time is a good thing.

anyone else do something similar?

Smart.

Dont have a laptop at the moment.

SleazyDream 01-30-2004 07:25 PM

i stay online but i turn off icq when I need to get stuff done and don't check my email

TheJimmy 01-30-2004 07:27 PM

another way to accomplish the type of 'offline' that you're referring to, I could do with merely leaving off GFY and any IM devices and just work...

I'm most productive when I do that...

fuzebox 01-30-2004 07:27 PM

I always get all panicky if I'm on a laptop that isn't online... It's like sitting in the car listening to the radio, but not driving.

GonePhishing 01-30-2004 07:30 PM

I like shutting off my PM for a couple hours.:thumbsup

quiet 01-30-2004 07:31 PM

i'm online almost my entire waking life, so i find 3 hours or so of daily work offline very heathly, business-wise.

breaks up the routine quite a bit too...

block 01-30-2004 07:32 PM

I like to do work that isn't on a computer sometimes just to get a break from staring at the screen. Makes me feel a lot better too.

stocktrader23 01-30-2004 07:32 PM

No, because there isn't a place in damn town that has wireless. :(

Ash@phpFX 01-30-2004 07:32 PM

when im working on stuff i sometimes print it out and/or use a notepad and pen to do it for e few hours, then come back to the pc.

mrthumbs 01-30-2004 07:36 PM

i used to do that all that all time time, pretty much fallen out of the habit these days though.

Krome 01-30-2004 07:37 PM

There is a brothel 100 metres from my house....I work offline in there....................... repeatidily

WiredGuy 01-30-2004 07:45 PM

I think I'm going to need to. Google makes a change that screws a lot of people and my icq flares up as though it's my fault and people asking me what to do. I'm not google support desk!

haha.. that'll teach you for getting such a good reputation :)

Peaches 01-30-2004 08:05 PM

When the weather's nice I usually try to have tea or something out on the deck or down on the dock after I've checked emails and stats. It's not working, per se, but it gets me in a place of mind where I can face sitting in front of the computer for the rest of the day without wishing the ENTIRE time I was outside. :)

After dinner I also like to have a glass of wine or frufru mixed drink in the same spots to unwind - again before I hit the internet for a few more hours of unrelentless surfing. :thumbsup

lost about 5-7% of traffic it seems.. Wouldn't have noticed if hadn't seen threads on here about it. Certainly can't complain.

C_U_Next_Tuesday 01-30-2004 08:27 PM

What a nice idea. I am almost always online cause I rely on it for reference. But would be nice to have all your shit downloaded to your hard drive and work outside the home.

My luck i will be sitting on some rock somehwere in the middle of nowhere working on a gallery and kid will walk up on me:(

sacX 01-30-2004 08:40 PM

it does seem a lot easier to take a step back and think about business when you're away from the distraction msgboards, IM's etc

JunkyardDog 01-30-2004 08:42 PM

For sure. Sometimes it nice to not be bothered by icq or email.

Brujah 01-30-2004 08:44 PM

wouldn't people be looking at your screen or over your shoulders, etc.. at a coffee shop ? they would steal my midget goth porn secrets.

xanx 01-30-2004 08:49 PM

man I would run out of stuff to do I think. Most of what I do is tied directly to a net connection somehow.

dirtysouth 01-30-2004 09:00 PM

Must...have...connection...

radical 01-30-2004 09:02 PM

I take the mutt for a long walk!! some fresh air and walk helps clear the head :thumbsup

digifan 01-30-2004 09:04 PM

I won't say I enjoy that much but someone has to do the cleaning, cooking, washing etc. every day.. :)

gornyhuy 01-30-2004 10:17 PM

what kind of stuff are you doing, quiet?
Bookkeeping? Editing video clips? Doing descriptions?

just curious.

angelsofporn 01-30-2004 10:25 PM

i have 300 avacado and citrus trees which need to be picked clean of weeds..surrounding area...gotta turn on the watering system etc. I do that once a week..thats about all ever see of daylight anymore...takes about 3 hours

Paul Markham 01-31-2004 12:09 AM

I go into the studio and see how things are getting on in their and if they have a cutie ask if I can shoot. :1orglaugh

KRL 01-31-2004 12:32 AM

I like going out late late at night around 3AM and there's a 24/7 Dunkin Donuts nearby. Just buy some newspapers, grab some coffee, read and relax.

No phones ringing. No IM's and e-mails beeping in. Just peace and quiet.

Sometimes I'll take a notepad with me to write down ideas.

I usually get to the beach a couple times each week also just to get my soul's energy into balanced harmony again with the earth's. Come back totally refreshed and rejuvenated.

dig420 01-31-2004 12:34 AM

There is no work I can do offline. I no longer do HTML, I never did program or design. All I do is boss people around and make deals.

I need my internet.

Theo 01-31-2004 12:37 AM

KRL...i wanted to ask you long time now.....

man I share your pain :(

Mr Pheer 01-31-2004 01:37 AM

Now that I can walk again, I like to go for a walk around one of the lakes here, usualy the closest one of course.

Just got back from a walk, its 50 degrees, no wind, nice and quiet.

AdultNex 01-31-2004 03:26 AM

I do the same too, except I head out to my local Starbucks. The ambient music, and the warm interior colors just bring out so much vibrant intensity.

flashfire 01-31-2004 03:27 AM

I actually find it hard to work offline...

madsender 01-31-2004 03:56 AM

Next week I'm going offline for a week to Antigua.. (Caribbean)

I think after spending 6 months or 12-16 hour days online its about time.

No beach to walk on where I am.. :(

Unless you want to dig through a foot of ice to get to it..

body 01-31-2004 04:01 AM

Yo, I'm fitness instructor and can work at the gym, I do that at the university from time to time.
Makes a lot of fun, guys train like I want it :thumbsup

psyko514 01-31-2004 04:02 AM

I like to kick back and take the time to read the paper, or read a good book. Sometimes I take a nice long nap. I wasn't feeling well earlier (around 10:30 pm) so I went to lie down. I woke up 5 hours later.

I don't take time offline to work. I can't stand working and not being connected to the net. I do like the idea of taking laptop to a wireless-enabled cafe though, provided I can get a good seat.

Well, back to bed now :)

myjah 01-31-2004 04:03 AM

i actually have a side job working from home as kind of a personal assistant. i take care of accounting and payroll for a small business. I keep this job because it makes me have to spend at least 15 hours a week doing something that is not online. Helps keep me sane.
