Also I am surprised the first Van Halen album didnt make it was ground breaking .

Chris E 01-30-2004 10:50 AM

Hmmm... not convinced! There are better efforts than those.

Danny_C 01-30-2004 10:51 AM

I don't really care for much on that list.

SykkBoy 01-30-2004 11:02 AM

I'm amazed that Slayer's Reign In Blood (one of the most influential, groundbreaking albums of all time) isn't listed there....

we should make an alternative list with the music the reviewers were too afraid to listen to.

Babagirls 01-30-2004 11:05 AM

i only agreed with about half of the albums.

Nirvana definatly a good pick......Beatles too.....Elvis, of course! These are people that all changed music forever in their own way!!! :thumbsup

Sarah_Jayne 01-30-2004 11:10 AM

yes but it isn't best bands/artists it is best albums...the two don't always go hand in hand. There is a particular art to putting together a group of songs that work as an album. Rather than just putting three singles on an album and filling the rest with 'also rans'.

Malkmus 01-30-2004 11:10 AM

No Billy Ray Cyrus in that list ... hmmm shame

... just kidding

block 01-30-2004 11:11 AM

Some good choices there, but lots of crap too.

Fu-Q 01-30-2004 11:17 AM

seems about right to me, id listen to almost all of them

tayloryum 01-30-2004 11:18 AM

not a very diverse listing. these two should be there (among others):

moby "play"

beastie boys "hello nasty"

hershie 01-30-2004 11:18 AM

Q Magazine in Britain had a poll a few years back and named Radiohead's OK Computer as #1

nancella 01-30-2004 11:23 AM

I agree with 1/3 of them but there are some big gaps. Too many Beatles Albums, Too much Dylan, No Indie, No Hip Hop and No Electronic Music. Damn, they only included one Jazz album which agreeably is the best Jazz album of all time, but damn, there's a hell of a lot more. This list was made for people who don't know shit about music and are closed-minded

Oh yeah, and Fuck Elvis!

I agree..just look over your shoulder when you say it

ThunderBalls 01-30-2004 11:48 AM

I definitely agree with Sgt Peppers being number one, but Dark Side of the Moon number 43? That should be in the top 10. And where the hell is Simon and Garfunkel Bookends?

CraigA 01-30-2004 01:19 PM

No. 24, James Brown, Live at the Apollo. And here is the Godfather of Soul after his most recent performance.:1orglaugh

ytcracker 01-30-2004 01:24 PM

Michaelious 01-30-2004 01:25 PM

The bands that supposedly have too much representation defined music. The Beatles, Dylan, Elvis, they all defined what music would become and set the standards for excellent craftmanship within music, especially the Beatles. Within a six year period they created a revolution in music that has yet to be topped. Has there ever been an electronica album that influenced our culture in any way? I suppose there could have been, but never has an electronica album had any sort of social impact, which is something these 50s, 60s, and 70s rockers did all the time.

beemk 01-30-2004 02:42 PM

that list is nothing but opinions

Krome 01-30-2004 02:46 PM

I have never been a Beatles fan and much prefer the Rolling Stones....

I think the list looked at what impact these albums had on the music world and the world in general. Sgt. Pepper's sounds like a lot of other albums now, but when it came out it completely revolutionized music. I'm thinking that's why it made the top of the list.

This has got to be the most overrated album of all time. The Beach Boys were NOT musical geniuses! Stop making Brian Wilson out to be a god - he wasn't that talented! This album makes every lame music critic's top 10 - enough already! GRRRR :feels-hot

Maru 01-30-2004 03:15 PM

Nah - some of the best ones aren't there.

It's not just music critics who worship Pet Sounds. Albums can be important for the influence they had on other artists. Pet Sounds was a major influence on both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
