Surgeons stunned by 728 kidney stones find
Surgeons in India have been stunned to find 728 stones in a man's kidney, 25 years after he was first diagnosed with the ailment. Dr Dileep Shah says it took nearly two hours for the doctors to upon the patient because staff were busy counting the stones. He says 50-year-old Mangilal Jain is convalescing at Rajasthan Hospital in Ahmedabad. According to the hospital's medical director Anil Chaddha, he has heard of patients with 180 to 190 stones in their kidneys, "but such a whopping number were recovered for the first time". The normal practice to remove kidney stones is to blast them by shock waves and remove them from the system but Mr Jain was not fit for the procedure, doctors said. "Surgery was the only option as it would have taken ages to remove such a big cluster of stones through shock waves," said Dr Shah, reports Keralanext.com. http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_860869.html |
