When do you work best?

Morning? Afternoon? Evening? Night?

I work the best in the morning. Feel rested and revived, fresh and ready for the day. Few distractions with a list full of things to do.

The evening on it gets a little more difficult. More distractions and the 12 hour computer stare start to kick in.

I work pretty good drunk too... no idea why... some nights I'll hop on at 3-4 in the morning and get more accomplished than the whole day before.

when i'm high during the day before sunset. defintely my most productive time.

and also under any sort of deadline.

Same here, it's just ultra peaceful, the kids are sleeping, the dog is worn out, the phone isn't ringing, the wifey is in bed, TOTAL peace.

I see f/t webmasters usually work late into the night and wake up late. It follows that those times seem to be the natural timeclock or most creative hours as we could work anytime we want in general. If so, why are official office hours 9-5 and getting pushed back even further to 8AM or 7AM start times. It seems to me like they are going against nature the way they make professionals rush to be at an office so early.

I work best when it's dark outside usually after midnight when the TV is off, the wife is in bed. I turn off all the lights in the room have only a lava lamp or some other ambient light. Maybe a little soft trance music (I love working to the Global Underground's Deep Dish - Live in Moscow CDs; those beats just hypnotize me). The only real strong stimulus I want is the light from my monitor. Then I can get into the zone and start coding away.
In the mornings I've noticed I'm incapable of getting anything done. I'm just too tired and can't seem to focus. I'm constantly jumping between IM's, e-mails and news on the web.

Because an office setting relies on brick and mortar business, and brick and mortar stores follow the daylight hours. That's when the walk-in customers come.
There are of course people who go shopping at 1 in the morning (me), but the vast majority of people do it during the daytime.

The customers drive the demand and set the hours... not the other way around. The only exception to this is banks and doctors. With the banks I couldn't tell you, closing at 5 is just stupid even with an ATM machine outside. With the doctors, they've got families too that they want to be home with and you can always go to the emergency room if you really need to be seen.

Btw I work from home so my most productive times are late at night. Kids in bed, tv turned off, hubby is usually in bed or playing a computer game - nice and quiet, no interruptions, no getting screamed at every 2 minutes (MOMMMMMMMM HE'S HITTING MEEEEEEEEEE)..... just dark, soothing, PEACE.

Exactly... Your setup sounds ideal.

Morning and Me just don't mix. I can't think straight and I'm totally unmotivated to do anything but chill out and sip coffee.
