wow - some kids are incredible.

it's -50C with the windchill here today. my wife's a teacher and school was cancelled, too dangerous to run the busses to take the kids to school - to give you an idea.

i get a phone call this morning from a local kid, he wants to shovel the snow off my deck. he's done it a few times before and i pay him well, but today i remind him that it's -50C and he can wait if he wants till it warms up. He insists so i let him do it. he can always jump into the house if he gets too cold I figgure and I tell him that.

I over pay him ( usually about $30 for what i know I could pay him $10 for, it's less than a 1/2 hour job) and he isn't great at it but he gets the bulk of the snow off and I'm wicked lazy so the whole thing works for me.

anyway - the wife drives him home. We know he's from a single parent household. He tells my wife that his mom doesn't get paid till tomorrow and she didn't have any money able to buy any food for the whole family -(he has two siblings as well) so she'll be really happy he's got some money for food for the family.

the kid's only about 13.

ok, personally i think the mom pissed her money away but that still doesn't take away from the fact that this kid really impressed me.

Manowar 01-29-2004 02:48 PM

anyone who goes out in -50c kind of weather deserves a medal.

that kid sounds like he could do with a more stable home

media 01-29-2004 02:49 PM

Good kid.. too bad half of society wasnt like this kid.. we'd live in a much better place..

brizzad 01-29-2004 02:50 PM

adopt him

turn him into sleazy jr.

LasseKongos 01-29-2004 02:51 PM

I use to do that when I was younger but only if it was -25C. if it was colder I go for winter+ = 10$ more per hour...

SexxxyChat-T 01-29-2004 02:51 PM

Thats the kind of kid I hope to raise someday - hardworking and responsible

TaylorM 01-29-2004 02:53 PM

Wonderful story! Sounds like the parents have done a good job raising their son.

Thanks for sharing! :)

block 01-29-2004 02:53 PM

Sounds like a good kid, hopefully he can make something out of himself.

the only good thing about this kids childhood is that he will grow-up with respect and a strong sense of responsibility, he will be 10 steps ahead of most of the fuck-up kids that are out there right now. :2 cents:

Donny 01-29-2004 02:54 PM

For some reason this thread just increased my "respect for sleazy" level.

Cash4Joins 01-29-2004 02:54 PM

order them a pizza or two for dinner tonight

Bishop 01-29-2004 02:55 PM

Inspiring but sad.. Sounds like a nice kid. I agree the world would be a better place if everyone was as responsible as this kid sounds.

DarkJedi 01-29-2004 02:56 PM

show him how to post galleries

This kid sounds like he will do well in life. He is driven to provide for his family and is willing to sacrifice and work hard. I respect that a lot!

she's pretty hot indeed :Graucho

Gabriel 01-29-2004 03:14 PM

I'ts a shame many children have to grow up so quickly and are not able to enjoy just being a kid.

Sosa 01-29-2004 03:36 PM

gotta give that kid props man. He is out there trying to get money for the family etc.

C_U_Next_Tuesday 01-29-2004 03:50 PM

alot of single parents live from paycheck to paycheck...any of you that don't have kids, do not realize how expensive it is to keep them fed and clothed...and dont give me the "if you cant afford them dont have them shit".. it happens.

I can say i liked this post except the fact of assuming the mom pisses her money away...why not ask her straight to her face.. or better yet offer her some help ...you probably make more off your sig in one month than she does in 6 months.

Kudos go to the boy for being a responsible kid :thumbsup

Indeed... he'll go places so long as he keeps it up.

Ross 01-29-2004 03:53 PM

WOW thats really sad to hear. Poor kid. Next time tell his fucking mom to come do the work if she wants the kids money.

That just made me real sad now as well.

CDSmith 01-29-2004 03:58 PM

I wish one of the kids in my neighbourhood would have banged on my door this week to shovel my snow. I'd have coughed up some good bucks no problem. This cold weather has my back all kinked up bad, shovelling hurts like hell but it had to be done.

Just in: -48 windchill all day tomorrow too. :(

ModelPerfect 01-29-2004 03:59 PM

Awesome story. Some kids can really surprise you. :thumbsup

MetaMan 01-29-2004 04:00 PM

-43 today here again in calgary, im couped up inside and dont plan on moving unless its to get beer!!!!!!!!!!

myjah 01-29-2004 04:01 PM

that's hot that the kid took on the responsibility. at the same time it's sad that they are in the situation. but that motivation should take him far in life.

GiantGnome 01-29-2004 04:03 PM

Good kids are good because thier parents taught them well. That doesnt sound like a broken home to me and it doesnt sound like the boy was forced to help. He wanted to help because he is a caring person.

Dawgy 01-29-2004 04:03 PM

:thumbsup

Steve 01-29-2004 04:03 PM

Good kid. Instead of feeling sorry for himself, he goes out and earns some cash. Good for him.

Wouldn't be too quick to jump on his Mom's case. Who knows the details, it could be very sad. What if she was just a housewife, never had a real job, or training/education? Her husband can die/leave, and she's screwed. That happened to my mom, and it took her a few years to get her shit together and find a job that paid good.

radical 01-29-2004 04:04 PM

wow :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

BV 01-29-2004 04:05 PM

No reason to feel sorry for the kid. I was raised in a similar fashion. Money I earned mowing yards, etc etc... paid for my lunches at school and clothes, etc etc....as well as helped my mom if she needed it.

That kid has no idea how lucky he is. As he grows up and achieves work goals in his adult life he will really apreciate and get real satisfaction out of it. Much more satisfaction than some rich brat punk kid that has everything given to him growing up and college paid for by his parents, et etc. Those kind most always grow up to be flopdicks. :2 cents:

Mike-BP 01-29-2004 04:06 PM

Good kid :thumbsup

Platinumpimp 01-29-2004 04:06 PM

sleazy, why don't you hire him and let him submit galleries and stuff ? :glugglug

axelcat 01-29-2004 04:08 PM

wow

Loryn 01-29-2004 04:11 PM

OMG I would just kiss and hug him to death. What an adorable boy with a huge heart. He will definatly be rewarded as an adult. :)
