PayPal kicked us out - who to use

Hi All,

Well today it finally happened, and email from PayPal in which they without warning banned us from taking payments due to the fact; "PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy prohibits receiving payments for mature audiences" - Damn bible bashers.

In any case - we need an alternative quick fast that will not try to thief us (ie have higher than %10 commission) and allow us to integrate with them via web/email for one off payments AND subscriptions.

After some research have found BeaverPay and a iKobo, can everyone share their experiences with being kicked from PayPal, and who did you use after?

Regards, J

It has to be said - there's been a LOT of warnings about using PayPal on adult sites and their terms are now fairly clear on the subject and have been for a while. Always worth doing a little research before jumping into these things especially where payments processing is concerned.

The most you will get away with using PayPal for these days are B2B affiliate payouts as it's not strictly speaking for 'mature audiences' (too many people seem to get confused on that point).

Vitasoy 01-29-2004 05:04 AM

theres also beaver pay? :winkwink:

xenigo 01-29-2004 05:08 AM

I take paypal payments all the time as a content provider. I don't think you'll have any issues if you sign up under a different name, and just don't mention the word ADULT. I think that's where you went wrong.

ListYourPorn 01-29-2004 05:31 AM

There are lots of offerings though you need to pick carefully as these providers are falling by the way side at a frighteneing rate.

What country are you in? What countries do you need to take payments from?

Just looking at your site quickly I would suggest you look at

www.nochex.com - www.epassporte.com - www.payhound.com

Thats just for starters, do you have ICQ? I will be happy to share other informatiom with you :-)

Check out moneybookers (see my sig) they have a pretty good setup comparable to pay pal, if not better.

NewbieNudes 01-29-2004 06:43 AM

Thanks Guys, Will look at all those.

Forgot to mention PayPal has a shitload of our cash (ie. 000's of $) - saying they won't release it for 180 Days.

PayPal users - learn from our experience - leave now.

You guys don't do recurring monthly payments though do you? Noone seems to do them at all let alone as slickly as PayPal did.

StormPay will stop handling adult related payments too, for this they set up the payment processor www.beaverpay.com (which looks ridiculous to me)

I would go with ePassPorte, it's brilliant!

ravo 01-29-2004 07:06 AM

Umm, I hate to point out the obvious, but Paypal has had their "Mature Audiences" policy in place for several months now. What part of that didn't you understand?

Your site obviously does not fall into their "acceptable sites". How did you expect Paypal to react when they found out?

Now, I'm not defending Paypal for all their actions, but this is such an obvious case; I don't think janos has any right to complain.

And, you're correct Tipsy, Paypal still allows B2B transactions for the purchase/sale of traffic and for payment of affiliate programs.

Exactly. I hate this thread because it's making me defend paypal. Although I use them as for some things there really aren't good alternatives, I don't like the way they operate. But good grief - how much sympathy can you have for someone who doesn't follow clear and VERY well publicised TOS?

Joesho 01-29-2004 07:51 AM

www.myvirtualcard.com try them....

Good On Ya! Of course we knew - we just didn't expect to make such a huge wad of cash in such a short time ;)

PayPal was used as an experiment - we just didn't get the cash out in time. Now we need a real payment gateway provider. And to our dismay there ain't any. Here are the results.

~BeaverPay : Looks promising but crap name enough to scare buyers we think.
~Ikobo: Doesn't take recurring payments
~StormPay: Been told they are gonna stop adult
~Epassporte: No Reccuring payments
~PayHound: UK based transactions only
~NoChex: Appeared to be Uk Only
~MoneyBookers: Looks good but no reccuring payments
~Yahoo Direct Pay: US residents only

So it ain't looking good.

SOMEONE must be doing recurring payments? Who are you using?

J

SinSeer 01-29-2004 08:24 AM

From Stormpay aka Beaverpay:

Hello BeaverPay members,

Sometime over the next week BeaverPay will change it's name to "allresell.com".
This name change is due to the fact that many are cautious to use the
"beaverpay" name even though billing shows as "webillcards".

When this change is made there is nothing that needs to be done on your end.
All changes will take place directly on the BeaverPay/AllResell website.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may bring but feel it will help to
increase your sales.

-----
We've been paid via cheque with them now

They're basically the adult face to stormpay, and looks almost like paypal, including subs

Ummm.. Nice site but NOPE.

"The following products and services cannot be sold:

Online Subscription Pornography & Adult Subscription Content
You can NOT sell any Adult subscription services, chat, or any pornography (pictures, videos, DVDs, magazines). "

Why if you were in the online payment business woul you want to EXCLUDE porn?? Surely there are more $$ in porn transactions than any other good/service ?

I don't get it.

I am actually not with moneybookers, I just know them pretty good. They do everything you need, it is an all around solution.

The only alternative to Paypal is Yahoo's Paydirect program. It's almost identical. You can send money to people in over 160 countries. And the rates are a bit less.

Check it out. I'm using it exclusively from this point out.

That's what we thought. Ikobo has grown too big too fast and now their customer support/service sucks. It takes weeks and/or months to get a response from them. Although after months it is quite possible you will not get a response at all. They have hidden fees too. Eg: a customer signsup in error/duplicates a purchase. Or you do not wish to accept a payment from someone for whatever reason. You have to pay them the processing fees and $0.95 to cancel the duplicate/undesired order.

They do not advise you of chargebacks. They just take the money out of your account. although you may get a notice telling you that you initiated a refund. It took a week to get them explain what the fuck happened.

They announced a lower fee (2.99%) becomes effective January 1, 2004. Yet they are still charging us 3.99%. Calling them is waste of time. You never get anyone on the phone and they do not return calls.

It used to take them 24 hours or less to deposit/release funds collected on our behalf. Now it takes them a minimum 72 hours days to release our money collected.

I have written them with all these concerns. Yet nothing changes for the better and they do not respond. They continue on as if we the customers will keep silent about their progressive deterioration.

Bottomline stay away from Ikobo!
