Woodworkers? How do you make your plans?

Do you use any specific software? AutoCAD, even though I used it for years at work, seem awful pricey for my home shop designs.

Any reccomendations?

I used to use QuickCAD it's a cheap alternative and most functionality is still there. Yes, AutoCAD is way to expensive for casual use.

If you were forced to take classes in drafting in high school like I was all you need is a piece of paper and a pencil along with a few rulers, but CAD is definitely a good way to go, although not really worth the extra effort, depends on the scale of the project.
