Now isn't this a piece of shit person. ebay scam happening to me

ok, many of you know I collect high end cig lighters.

I bid this lighter

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3267232074

and my bid cap was $2500. all week it stayed at $1150 (my bid) till the last second when someone came in and bid $2550.

ok, i lost the lighter - no biggie.

here's where it gets interesting. The NEXT day I get this email.
Hello!

You are the second bidder in my auction #3267232074
Unfortunately the highest bidder has some problems with the payment. Let me know if you're still interested in this item. I look forward to hearing from you soon

Thanks

ok, me thinks something is up but I respond telling her I'm more than happy to pay $1150, my last real bid before the FAKE bidder.
She responds with

Hello Scott!
I like to sell this item for your last bid price #2,500.00 including
shipping cost&insurance.Item will be sent on 1-2 day
after payment confirmation.If you
feel confident about my
proposal I'll
send you all needed details to make a transaction.Awaiting your reply.
Thanks

my last bid was $1150, and she should have NEVER known what my max bid on this item was. I left thinking that she used a friend to find out how much my max bid was to milk me out of as much money as possible - which is a scam an illegial according to ebay's rules.

i send her a reply telling her I'll only pay $1150, and if she refuses I'll report her to ebay and the police for running a scam.

fuck do scammers ever piss me off.

detoxed 01-27-2004 02:48 PM

Umm Ebay lists your highest bid once someone goes over it. Of course she knows what it was.

Where is the lighter? It says "Cigarette Case Lighter Holder" and the pics are broken... I just want to see what a $2,500 lighter looks like :)

SoundMan 01-27-2004 02:55 PM

e-bay is a game, the high bider may have been phony. just to push your price up, happens all the time.

Thats why you should always use a proxy bidding website . They don't charge much but your bid is only placed 6 seconds before the end of the auction .

Your acting like an idiot if you dont want it dont take it for $2500
You have no proof that she did anything wrong you think she is trying to scam you nothing more go complain to ebay if you want they wont do shit uness that person has bid on things from her before and she sold it to someone else.
personally if i was her i would have told you to fuck off and relisted the item.

stevecore 01-27-2004 03:42 PM

tell her to auction it off again.

BobChezule 01-27-2004 03:44 PM

Nasty scum sucking bitch. Tell her to shove that lighter where the sun don't shine. Or, like the previous poster, just tell her to auction it again. She'll never get $2500

beemk 01-27-2004 03:49 PM

you have no proof she is scamming you. its a possibility, but no proof. i sell all kinds of stuff on ebay and i've always had people back out.

"assumption is the mother of all fuckups"

Mazer Rackus 01-27-2004 03:57 PM

Only a complete retard would pay $2k for a lighter (even if he's got money coming outa his ass)

Carry on morans.

BradShaw 01-27-2004 03:59 PM

I got scammed on ebay for $1k...... Ebay and Paypal were of no help in resolving the situation.

$5 submissions 01-27-2004 03:59 PM

Doesn't Ebay have procedures to crack down on such sleazy tactics?

Ummmm proxy bid?

hyper 01-27-2004 05:37 PM

your not obligated to purchase it.

tell her $1150 or auction it again

oldnewbie 01-27-2004 06:58 PM

You are not obligated to accept her second chance offer.

The fact that the high bidder backed out is suspicious, but it doesn't look like shill bidding to me. buylighter is obviously a lighter collector with a high feedback, and buys lighters from many different sellers:

http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws1/eBayISAPI.d...&all=1&rows=25

...only bidding on an auction by this seller the one time, in the past month or so.

However, it could be a case of finding something out about the lighter after he won it... Something that makes it worth less than he thought. Or he could have had problems with the payment, like she said.

I would personally ask her to relist it, and then not bid my max until the last 10 seconds of the auction.

oldnewbie 01-27-2004 07:01 PM

Almost forgot... Do you have any idea where the bid was at when the reserve was met? She probably won't sell it for less than her reserve price.

WankTank 01-27-2004 07:19 PM

I've seem some pretty fucked up ebay scammers.
But it sounds like ebay showed how much your cap was and the seller saw that. Maybe not though. you should get it checked out.

psyko514 01-27-2004 07:24 PM

I got fucked out of $1100 by someone here once for a laptop that was never shipped.

nofx 01-27-2004 07:25 PM

$2k for a lighter is just plain silly, but if its a collection hobby if yours go ahead.

I'd wager he wasn't buying it to light his wood stove.

:)

picpile 01-27-2004 07:43 PM

I have a lighter that I stuck in my ass. it smells good, only $52.99 on flex pay

Best thing to do. This practise might be very common on ebay.

detoxed 01-27-2004 07:58 PM

Problem is there is no proof of a scam going on. If you fucked up my business based on wrong assumptions I'd go to your house and murder your family. Have a nice day :)
