We need cheap stable shared hosting
for message board community server with more complicated structure than GFY - Apache, PHP in module, stable MySQL database required, if something goes down it is usually MySQL at such projects. 3,000 active users, 1,000 active boards.
Month transfer 100 GB, disk space 1.5 GB (nearly all user posts in SQL). This is not for typical virtual hosting, but it has not sufficient income to have dedicated hosting. Can you help? |
We can start you off on virtual and progress to dedicated as time/performance requires it.

Hi, maybe we can interest you in a semi-dedicated plan at TheXXXHost.com, you can use the coupon BoardsPromo20 to receive a 20% recurring discount on them. If required we can transfer you to dedicated without any problems. If you choose to go for a dedicated we can throw in a 2nd drive for backups :thumbsup

AndrewX: Wau, your 1/8 plan for $39 looks greater than everything i have seen. But what means Fair Use of MySQL at this plan? And what mean numbers at other plans? As i wrote we feel mysql may become weak point of our application but i am not too familiar with it and i imagine it hugely depends on server admins - we had dedicated hosting where admin really was not able to set up this project database with no member presented, on the contrary we runned succesfully at one virtual account (but they had very high bandwith fees). Are you (or your techs) strong enough to monitor it and tell us for example "your application is ok but you have to delete messages about 2 months old to not slow other accounts"? Can you give me address to discuss it? Or mail me to carla.cz [at] centrum.cz

Cheap and stable don't belong in the same sentence. Unless you don't mind a frequent message board crash, do yourself a favor and go with a host that has proven itself time and time again.
At Phat Servers we have some great shared packages and even some awesome discounts on dedicated servers that would interest you. For more information, send me a message on ICQ at 147479144 or email at [email protected] . I'd be happy to help you find a plan that best suits your needs. :thumbsup |

Thanks to you all. We decide probably between TheXXXHost.com and Webair because they are closest to what we need. The situation is such that we cannot get more than about $50 earnings in month from it. It is non-adult and non-english board. Because me and few mine friends discuss there too we are agreed to pay little more money than the income is but it is really not in dedicated hosting level. So in case of the database problems we had to reduce user comfort, delete old messages, turn off some functions etc. But i hope it will be ok, we are currently hosted for free at dedicated 486 by one former friend we had conflict with now, there are messages up to 18 months old and it runs perfectly, so i suppose if we set automatic deletion of messages after 5-6 weeks now, no problem should appear.
