Barbara Walters Stepping down
 

NEW YORK -- Barbara Walters says she will step down this fall as host of the ABC newsmagazine "20/20."

Walters -- who is 74 -- has been with the program for 25 years.

She will stay on as executive producer and co-host of the daytime talk show "The View."

A statement released by ABC quotes her as saying the changes will give her life more flexibility.

Walters had told The New York Times that she's become uncomfortable with the pressure to find interview subjects appealing to young people who are less interested in news.

Among Walters' major "20/20" interview subjects were Cuban President Fidel Castro and Monica Lewinsky.

Is it true that Howard Stern will be replacing her?

I heard a rumor that Howard Stern will be replacing her.....anyone else know about this?

i had no idea she was 74. Can't blame her for wanting to retire.

She is a very nice woman- I have met her and she is a wonderful person...and she looks damn good for 74.

A few weeks back told me that she has never been spotted eating- I find that a bit odd- but then again if I could eat at Tavern on the Green everyday in NY that's where I 'd be...

me too, plus she has the other show "The View" which I am sure keeps her plenty busy.

Stern is getting a one time one-hour interview-format show on ABC. If it goes well, it could become a regular series.

It has nothing to do with replacing Walters. They won't even let Stern say that he's part of the ABC News Department.

Seriously, do I care?
