Is your server secure?

For starters they should have been running FreeBSD or another of the BSDs instead of linux :winkwink:

A system is only as secure as the admin (root) is good.

Doesnt matter if its BSD,Linux or Windows (ok,on a side-note: fuck windows for servers.)

But you get my POV.

No, it doesn't make money powered off.

However even without a firewall in place, an out of the box
FreeBSD server is tighter than a nun's hahahaha. Start there and
lock that puppy down for everything that you don't use.
Also if you're not self hosting, make damn sure your on a
VLAN. Otherwise you're as weak as the box beside you in
the rack.

Install freebsd, edit /etc/rc.conf for INETD_ENABLE="NO" and you have a system that is infinitely more secure than any default installation of linux and for that matter even a system that has already been somewhat secured by an admin. But you don't have to take my word on it try it out. Anyway I just love FreeBSD more than Linux in all respects, Linux's only upperhand is that it has a larger user base and developer base so it integrates with new hardware a bit quicker, but otherwise I dont see any benefits to using it over FreeBSD, just the opposite infact.
