Bandwidth information
My daily data transfer is about 50GB (30 GB during peak time). What is the best bandwidth plan for my site in order to avoid a slow down? I thought 5mb/s? Is that correct?

50GB * 30 days = 1500GB /mo.
1mbps sustained = 280-320 gigs per month. 1500/300 = 5 mbps. So you are in the right ball park regarding the 5mbps, if you're peaks are high you may be 6-7 on 95th but that 5 is a good indicator. Hit me up at 36837470 if you have any other questions. |

That depends entirely on how you're buying your mbps.
You are averaging about 4.68 Mbps, daily average. During peak time you are using about twice that or just over, around 10 Mbps. Every so often you are probably bursting to 12-14Mbps for a couple of minutes. Some hosts/ISPs/facilities sell bandwidth based on daily average. On a daily average basis, you need 5 Mbps. Some base it on per minute 90th percentile, where they record your usage each minute, then throw out the highest 10% of minutes and bill based on the highest remaining minute. On that basis you need about 10Mbps. Others have different ways of figuring it. In any event, you need to be able to burst to 14Mbps occasionally in order to avoid having your site become very slow when it is very busy. Now that I've said all that, let me mention a very good place to put your server and buy all that capacity: http://www.phatservers.net/cgi-bin/a...ick.cgi?raymor |
