Visa/canada
Ok, I've been reading alot of msgboard thread today about third party credit card processor closing down because visa wants them to pay 750$
Now i'm getting a little bit scared that verotel will be closing soon. I just hope instead of closing they ask us to pay for the 750$ that I don't mind to pay. The thing is I live in canada, most credit card processor ask for the 750$ for visa plus a merchant account in the US. Now my question is how do I go to get an merchant account in the US if I can't get to the US. How much would it cost me to get this merchant account ? Or is there another solution for us Canadian. There must be a canadian credit card processor. I know one, Internet Secure but they don't accept adult content. If anyone has any suggestion please let me know :) |
Get an offshore corp in the EU.
It is cheaper, and easier. Plus, you don't have to pay $750 to visa, can use as many EU processors you want, and the chargeback % is higher in the EU. Except for IBill. |
Everyone knows that there's no such things as Canada or Canadians!
|
What I hear most Canadian's do is setup a US corporation and then pay the $750 fee through a 3rd party biller. It might be kinda hard to get a US merchant account even with a US corporation. Have you checked to see if there are any Canadian Merchant Service that process for adult sites?

From canada you cannot process Visa on your adult sites PERIOD.
To comply with visa usa you must be a US entity, this means you have to register a corp and then signup with your thrid party biller of your choice and pay the 750$ and wait a month until visa approves it. Right now this is the only way to use VISA USA on you sites. You can also use VISA if you are in Europe, for this you must register a european corp or know someone in europe willing to do thso for you to be able to accept visa on your sites. You can use either ccbilleu or ibilleu and you don not have to fork over 750$ either and you CB ratio is also higher. Verotel cant charge you the 750 even if they wanted to, this is something that is hapening exclusively in the USA. |
Correct me if im wrong. A Canadian corp can accept Master Card, Discover, web900 and Checks, right? So basically you can have a paysite but cannot accept VISA. Visa makes up for what, 40% of the market?

In my experience i have always had about 50% |

How many of the 50% also have a Master Card or Discover card in their wallets? Im sure if they no choice but to join with other that Visa some would take "other". Things that make you go, hmm. |
On my paysites, Visa is about 70% - 75 % .
On tangible goods, about 65% . Discover, phone are practically inexistent. Checks very low ( 5% ) and unreliable. You will need a corp. either in the US or in the EU. Your choice to make... |

The US And Europe, bottom line is you want to be using them on your sites you need to have a presence in one of these 2 places. Ill keep my nose out of the US for a lil while to see how visa and acacia and the doj and all the rest of the current headaches play out.... :2 cents: TiffanyLee having a presence in europe doesnt mean its offshore |

Visa used to push about 70% of all sales in cc's
They aren't so much now on US issued cards especially, thanks to Citibank switching from Visa to Mastercard. It's still not a figure you want to live without if you're running a business. |

Not sure what kind of sites you have or who you are processing with, I'd be very leery of having 80% of my money coming thru one route tho... perhaps you could set your join pages up a bit differently to 'encourage' surfers to use anything but? |

Read the website. They aren't a merchant account for adults. If you want to bill people, they call a #, enter a pin, they fund a virtual card. They can then use this virual card, blah blah. Not something 99% of surfers are going to do. What you need is a Merchant account. You are looking at $1500-3000 (estimates) to set it up. You may also be required to set up a European corperation, or you may not, depending on the company you chose to get a merchant account for. The rules you heard about most billers are for 3rd party billers like ccbill, epoch, ibill. Visa doesn't want adult on 3rd party billers anymore. They want every adult website to have their own merchant account, bringing more responsibility into it. You need to get approved by banks, need references, credit checks, and you put up a large fee. (some places don't have merchant setup fees if you do around $100-200K/month in transactions) ZoiNk |

Visa has such a large share partly because of bank debit cards.
They show up as credit card transactions and you can not tell the differrence. I have used 5 banks and everyone of them issued me a Visa debit card. |
I haven't noticed a decrease in Visa sales yet but personally, I only have Mastercards. :2 cents:

my partner on a project is canadian. he had to incorporate in the u.s. in order to process with epoch. he used incorporate and it just took a few minutes. then he had to get a tax i.d. for the corporation.
i'd say we're seeing around 70-80% visa, and about 75% our members are from the u.s. |
