haha.. Ig and Lou are safe and sound.

I have a high pain threshold luckily. The worst I think was the first few days after they'd drilled into my bone and set the titanium sleeves. I'd had an abscess forming above on of the two teeth and between the absess going away and the 'bone bruised' feeling from all the drilling into the bone, it was pretty tender.

Lensman 01-23-2004 12:00 AM

Haha, good one PK.

LoL actually no, but I did fall and bang them on a railing when I was 11 or 12 years old. Dang Army dentists (I was an Army brat) told me that only one needed a root canal at the time, when both should have been done. About 6 years ago I had veneers done on both of them after the dentist told me that if they ever took a good hit they might break off at the gumline leaving nothing to crown. In the late summer, I developed an abscess above the one that had never been root canaled (and the dead root had long since calcified). My options where oral surgery to drain the abscess and hope it didn't return (they usually do), antibotics and hope that does the trick (it didn't) or implants. I could have done just the one with the abscess, but then with my luck the other one would have problems later on. Now 4 months later, they're finished and all is well. I can bite apples again.

glad to hear "the twins" are safe and that you're relatively pain free...

I've been through quite a few implant, root canals, caps, etc (bike accident as a kid)....and the pain is very strange and real, thank god for good pills and nice docs...

My son's girlfriend is deathly afraid of dentistes because of a bad experience years ago. She was having problems with a molar (large cavity, tooth breaking, pain) and needed a root canal and crown. She was going to just live with it till it fell out.

Finally got her to go to my dentist (I paid for it because she has no insurance). To do the root canal, they gave her 3 valium and 2 vicodin.. had her wait and hour then put the nitrous on her. She giggle and then slept through most of it. Gave her percocet for after. When she came back for the crown prep, she was more comfortable. Took 2 valium before and then the nitrous during. They even managed to sneak in a few surface fillings she needed done.

the painfree dentists that aren't afraid to keep thier patients comfortable are a God-send....

fortunately my dentist at the time of my accident was also a friend of the family and a client of my father's....we had partied together a few times so he kept me very pilled up much like your son's g/f's experience...

normaly I would say DAMM that's a lot of pills, but after having gone through several crowns and root canals....that sounds JUST about right ....

On a freaky side note:

I did learn to love one of the side affects of nitrous....some people get a heightened sense of hearing...while I was kinda 'out' I recall hearing the sound of Hillary's nylons walking around. She was a HOT dental hygenist working in the office, I think that's where I developed one of my fetishes for nylons :)

Roald 01-23-2004 01:54 AM

Ah damn, got me there I was expecting some boobjob pics :thumbsup

I couldnt agree more, I love my new dentist man.. I don't like dentists cuz of a bad experience when I was young, but my new dentist is top notch, gives me lots of injections, and perscribes me a few valiums before any major stuff..

I have an appointment in feb. to get a couple small things fixed..

Mutt 01-23-2004 09:46 AM

i put dentists at the top of the professional thieves list. sorry you didn't get into med school but that's the way the cookie crumbles, point is you aren't a doctor. you're a teeth fixer upper, good job and you deserve to be paid better than a plumber but not the same amount of money a neuro or cardiac surgeon makes.

it's a cartel. get your phonebooks out and start calling dentists at random and asking for prices on a root canal, you won't find $100 difference anywhere. now some dentists have offices in parts of cities that run $250 per square foot and others have offices in strip malls at $10 per sqaure foot or even in their homes, but the price for procedures always is similar.

lawyers always take shit from everybody but i can find lawyers who will work cheap and lawyers who are $500 an hour and up.

many poor have horrible teeth because half the population can't afford to see a dentist. that is wrong.

Mutt 01-23-2004 09:51 AM

PK can u see any exposed metal with your implants?

i had the option of getting an implant but i elected to save the tooth and go for a bridge - think it worked out to the same money more or less. implants are really expensive. i remember the dentist showing me pictures of finished implants and I saw some metal - think that's what turned me off the most.

Observing 01-23-2004 09:54 AM

teeth or breasts who cares POST PICS!

Trax 01-23-2004 09:58 AM

No.. not on these.. but he said I had no bone loss and good gums so that may be part of it. I do know that he made the tops of the teeth a bit taller than my original ones. That may be the difference in not seeing any metal.

Lykos 01-23-2004 11:13 AM

Tala 01-23-2004 11:19 AM

w00t! Great to hear it, PK. I'm afraid that I'm going to end up having to have a veneer put on mine eventually, and I"m not looking forward to it.
