Amputateyourhead!! Regulate contest

It would be really cool if GFY would regulate some of the contest on the board so that these kind of post are killed off.

http://gofuckyourself.com/showthread...5&pagenumber=1

The contest holder can put the money in "escrow" to be paid out by GFY and GFY can put a special image or text on the thread to let everybody know that the contest is secured by GFY.
This way we will only devote hard work to real contest.

Thanks

if you dont trust someone, dont participate

Roald 01-22-2004 05:13 PM

Yeah cause we got nothing better to do than play captain save a n00b all day long...

hudson 01-22-2004 05:17 PM

If everyone that was trusted actually always paid then there would be no such thing as escrow. Even people who are trustworthy get a lame streak and flake from time to time.

digifan 01-22-2004 05:18 PM

50 bucks in the title then raised to 100.. but it is not about the 50 bucks. Some people like Hansm or Robfantasy also started contests and never even picked a winner.
:BangBang:

That's actually a nice "optional" idea. I don't think all contests should be forced to do this, but I think it would be a nice thing to do for those who choose to do so that they might get more entries.

tbabe, I hear what you're saying, but it wasn't $50 that was lost. It was actually $100. AND it represents many hours in man (and woman) labor from several different designers NONE of whom were compensated for their time.

Contests can be alot of fun if they are run by honest people and if you allow one person to rip people off this way, the next thing you know thieves will realize that contests are a great way to get free design and alot more people will expect free design work. :(

It doesn't work to only enter contests from people you trust, because there are honest people coming here for the first time all the time. It wouldn't be fair to them to completely exclusde them from holding contests.

tbabe 01-22-2004 05:20 PM

Ya, but you cant expect gfy to setup a whole system to regulate these little contests.

digifan 01-22-2004 05:21 PM

Sure thing Tootie, my favorites are the gallery template design contests where you have to agree they can use your entry even if you don't win.. remember?

Think bigger.

A paypal payment of the prize money to GFY and guaranteed payout might just make a lot more webmasters hit that post.
And more hits to a secured post might motivate bigger and better contest.
More posting on GFY...nah, maybe they don't want that.

Yes, and some banner contests have done the same thing. I entered one of those when I had extra time to waste, but not when I have other things to do, which is most of the time. One banner contest I saw even threw that rule in AFTER the contest began and entries had come in! They got tons of free banners. I wouldn't enter anything like this ever again unless I really had time to just waste for fun.

Oh wow, big setup!

Make a contest post and paypal your prize money to Contestpayment@GFY along with the URL to the thread and the moderator will add an icon or some text to that post.

Yeah, way too much work.

It is a total rip off... we could give away free design as well and promote ourselves, be it banners, splash pages, tgp galleries or whatever. The smart people run the best combo: "buy one, get one free". If only I had enough time... or you or any of us.
