It's based on life expectancy, adult literacy, gross enrollment rate and GDP per capita. Formula is this: x = (life expectancy in years) - 25 / 85 - 25 y = (2/3 * (adult literacy rate / 100)) + (1/3 * (combined gross enrollment ratio) / 100) z = (log(GDP per capita in US$) - log(100)) / (log(40000) - log(100)) HDI = 1/3x+1/3y+1/3z |
Canada was #1 couple of years in a row... what the fuck happened... :helpme

Iceland at number 2?
lol? |
The sad part of that is the fact that every nation at the bottom of the list is in Africa. And most Northern Africa. Unspeakable things happen in those countries that the rest of the world doesn't talk about. There is a thriving slave trade in West Africa to this day, young children are sold into slavery by the thousands after theyre either sold by their parents or kidnapped from their villages. AIDS is out of control and will only get worse exponentially. Civil wars are happening in numerous countries, with the longest running civil war in history still raging for over 20 years in the Sudan and taking something like 2 million lives. Poverty, hunger, crime....
Really sad state of affairs. |
UN motherfuckers, Iraq is not on the list at all :321GFY
|
I wonder what they factors they used to determine this

Those top countries are just too damn cold. Australia and the States are the only ones that I would want to live in year round. Those other countries are great, but only seasonal.

Like the 20 mass graves unearthed in the Congo, freshly filled with close to 1,000 victims of genocidal massacres. Like the 3.3 million people who have died in Congo since 1998 ? to say nothing of the horror stories of macheted infants, incinerated villages and soldiers cannibalizing their victims. http://www.eastandard.net/archives/A...2082003002.htm http://justworldnews.org/archives/000139.html http://www.africashope.com/news_massacre.htm http://www.boston.com/news/world/afr...e_rises_to_65/ http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0307/p09s01-woaf.html Wanna talk about something that needs to be wiped out. THIS shit needs intervention. It's not going to happen though so I'm not holding my breath. It's pretty easy to say that Saddam was such a horrible guy taken on his own merits and what he did, and he WAS. But what about all the other dictators that are doing this shit to their own people and continue to do so to this very day? Yep, it's fair. |

Still waiting for the UN to take a stand or do, well, anything. Stand up -- the leaders of international politics, purveyors of truth and equality, and human rights activists! No wait... It won't happen. |
